“Medically, Caleb.”

I cringed the second I said it, but he just grinned wider.

“Well this is just getting downright kinky, Doc”

I could feel the heat spreading over my face, but I steeled myself, straightening my back and holding his gaze . “Look, you want to let me in and act like an adult, or would you rather get an infection?”

Caleb nodded slowly, stroking his chin again as he peered off at some imaginary point. “So, in this hypothetical ‘get infected’ scenario, would you be my doctor?”

“If you were a puppy? Sure. If not, I’m sending you to a freaking hospital next time.”

He grinned, chuckling before he winced a little, holding his side.

“Let me take a look at that.”

I brushed past him, marching into the big industrial loft style apartment and setting the bag of supplies I’d brought down on the big slab-wood kitchen island.

“Okay, take off your shir—” I blushed before I caught myself, swallowing the heat from my face.

Right, he’s not wearing a shirt. As in, the reason your brain is turning to mush right now.

I turned and pointed to one of the stools by the island.

“Sit.”

“Woof woof,” Caleb chuckled. He closed the door to the apartment, and I swallowed another flash of heat from my face before I told myself for the millionth time to get ahold of myself.

Caleb sauntered towards me, his eyes slipping over every inch of me and sending a shiver through my spine before he sat down at the kitchen island. I bent over him, peeling back the bandage from the previous night to take a look at the sutures I’d put in. Caleb hissed as I tugged at the bandage, and I wrinkled my nose.

“Shit, sorry. Wish I could give you something for the pain.”

I looked up at him, but when our eyes caught, he held my gaze, making me shiver as those sharp blues pierced into me.

“I think what you gave me last night worked just fine,” he purred darkly, his voice heavy and his eyes flashing pure fire at me. I sucked in a breath of air, chewing at my lip as our eyes danced over each other’s.

“I—I don’t think that’s a very good idea,” I said softly.

“I wasn’t sure going to a vet to get a bullet pulled out of me was such a hot plan either, but I’d say that worked out pretty good for everyone.”

I rolled my eyes, grinning as I bent down to dab some antiseptic ointment around the wound. Caleb grunted, and I couldn’t even stop my eyes from glancing at his clenching abs if I tried.

“You’ve got a line for everything, don’t you?”

“Nah, just for you, Doc.”

I forced my eyes to stay on his wound as I cleaned it. My face flushing as I felt his eyes on me.

“So, to clarify,” he cleared his throat. “You don’t think kissing me is a good idea because… what, doctor-patient relationship?”

I bit back the grin that threatened to spread across my lips. “Sure. That.”

“Well then you’re fucking fired, and I’d like another doctor please.”

I giggled, snorting a little and blushing as I looked back to his wound.

“Or is it the fact that Landon already got a taste of those sweet lips.”

I froze, heat rushing through me like wildfire as I just paused like that, bent over with my fingers against his side.

“I—no, I don’t know what you think—”

“I think my best friend in the world tells me everything, sweetheart,” he said quietly, and when I swallowed and somehow dragged my eyes back to his, I trembled at the pure heat there in his face. It wasn’t jealousy—well, maybe it was partially jealousy. But if anything, it was hunger, and this raw lust that burned right into my core.

And for some reason, frozen like that with our faces inches apart, my breath coming heavy, I could remember both of their kisses from the night before. Caleb’s quicker, shorter, but still fiercely hot kiss. And then Landon’s longer, deeper, more drawn-out fiery one. The room felt warmer, the air thicker as I swallowed again, taking a shaky breath.

“Yeah, see, Landon and I tell each other everything,” Caleb said lowly, his voice a growled whisper. He reached out, and when his fingers brushed a strand of hair away from my face, my breath caught.

“Guess you could say we share a lot.” His eyes flashed, and I felt a spark blaze into me. “A lot.”

…The types of filthy thoughts that suddenly slid into my dirty mind right then were the unlike I’d anything I’d ever dared to think about before, and suddenly, it was all too much.

“I—” heat bloomed through my face and neck. “I should go.”

I stood quickly, panting, eyes wild as I looked for my bag.

“Hey, Doc?”

My eyes swiveled back to Caleb, who was just sitting there smirking at me, a look on his face that said he knew every single dirty thing I’d just been thinking about.
