“I’m all yours, darling.”

A wicked grin lined her lips, and she spun to face him. His heart turned over.

Her face had an openness he’d never seen in the diner. He liked the look of it.

“I bet you tell all the girls that.” She winked.

“Actually they’d be gone by now. You’re not the only one who dodges commitment.”

“So why—” Trailing off she shook her head. A wall came down behind her eyes.

“You aren’t the type of woman I could get out of my system in one night. The conversations we’ve held over the past six months have been more words than I’ve spoken to any other woman in years.”

Pouring soap into her hands she lathered his chest. “It’s just polite conversation, Ty.”

“Really? Do I have siblings?”

“A younger brother.”

“And what’s my favorite color?”

“Navy blue.”

“What am I allergic to?”

“Bees. You always have an Epi pen in your vehicle … wow.” She paused mid circle on his stomach. Her eyes were large amber marbles as she leaned back, perching on his lap. “I guess I know more about you than I thought.” Her lips pursed, and he could feel her retreat.

Oh no, you don’t.

“Funny, I can’t say the same thing about you?”

She snickered. “What? You want to know my favorite color?”

“I want to know anything you’re willing to tell me.”

“Don’t do this.” She shook her head.

“What? Get to know you better?” He tucked a finger under her chin, forcing her to meet his stare. “You must like me somewhat. You agreed to two weeks with me.”

“Yes, having sex, not being intimate.”

“I’m going to be inside you every second I get. That’s as close as two people can get.”

“I didn’t agree to this.” Her body stiffened like concrete hardening under the sun.

“I told you about my wife.”

Sucking in a deep breath she glanced up at the ceiling and released it slowly. “Low blow.”

“Truth.” He squeezed her hips. “Just tell me why.”

“Why what?”

“You don’t want to be friends.”

“That’s not all you want.”

“Would that be so bad?”
