Leaving the hospital, he couldn’t help but tease her one last time. “Do you still think the marriage contract was the craziest scheme I ever came up with?”
“Yes, but lucky for you I’m the same kind of crazy and it turned into the best thing you ever got us into.”
He squeezed her hand as they made their way out, united, stronger, and free of the secrets they’d kept inside for far longer than they should’ve.

Fulfill the Contract

He ran his hands over her back, unable to resist the thin band of skin bared by the high-waisted, two-piece wedding top and skirt. The ivory colored outfit was adorned with tiny white applique flowers and draped the ground in a way that created a circle which turned her walking into gliding just above the earth. The top had sheer sleeves with the same design and showed off just enough of the swell of her breasts. He couldn’t take his eyes off the enchanting sight she made. It was like she’d stepped from the gardens to visit them, mere mortals on this day.
They’d married at the Loveland Castle in front of three hundred of their closest family and friends in a sunset ceremony he’d remember for the rest of his life. The sky had been an amazing background, but it paled in comparison to his wife. Wife. It was a word he’d never tire of using. They swayed to the slow song and he smiled down at her.
“Are you happy, little flower?”
“Sickeningly so. You?”
“I’ve never been happier in my entire life. Thank you for taking a chance on one last scheme with me.”
“Well, you know, a verbal contract is binding in a court of law.”
The song ended and he dipped her, kissing her sassy mouth into silence. After thirty-one years, they were moving on to a new stage in their journey together. He couldn’t wait to see what the years would bring.
