Restless Spirits - Page 21

He smiled. “You’re welcome. I have one more surprise for you, if you’re ready to get out of here.”

“More?”

“Hey, this weekend was go big or go home.”

“You keep impressing me.”

He took her hands and led her from the room, eager to leave memories of the ghost behind them and solidify their new dating status.

After an hour and a half on the road, he took a ramp off the freeway.

“What are you up to?” she said.

“Just wait. I guarantee you’ll figure it out.” They rounded a corner, and she gasped.

“I know this road! I know where we are! This is the stretch of road used in the opening sequence to Seeker, isn’t it?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Ahh. This is fricking amazing!” She bounced in the passenger seat like an excited child. “We’re going to get out and take pictures, right?”

“This is only part of the surprise.”

“Dude, what more could you possibly give me that would even come close to topping this?” she said.

“I can think of one thing.” He bit the inside of his cheek and stared ahead to keep a straight face. He’d cashed in a lot of favors to make this happen, but it’d be worth it to see her face. Being a sports agent had its perks. People liked games and athletes. It greased the wheels from time to time. He’d based this entire trip on the fact that the stars of the show would be filming new promo shots here. It wasn’t their primary location.

“Oh, my God! Are we going to drive by one of the sets?” She leaned over the console.

“Something like that.” He took a left and pulled up to the guard shack that led into a group of buildings.

“Pierce?”

“Hold on.” He pulled up and rolled down his window. “Good morning.”

“Good morning. Can I get your name and identification, sir?”

“Yes, Pierce Lane, party of two.”

The guard glanced down at his clipboard and nodded, taking the ID Pierce held out. “Okay, you check out. You’ll want to drive in, take a left, and you’ll come up to a parking lot on your right-hand side.”

“Thank you.” Pierce took his ID, returned it to his wallet, and pulled away from the shack, following the directions.

“P-Pierce?”

“Yes?” He risked a glance in her direction and smirked. Her eyes were as round as dinner plates.

“Are we going on set?”

He pulled into the parking lot, found an open space, and turned to face her. “Yes, we are.”

She fumbled with her seat belt, all but ripping it free, and threw herself into his arms. Her soft lips peppered his face with kisses, and he laughed.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

She moved back into her seat and took a deep breath. “I am so not dressed for this. I mean, look at me.” She ran a hand through her windblown hair, and he licked his lips. The scoop-neck black T-shirt hugged her curves, and her jeans emphasized the flair of her hips and the round firm ass he couldn’t wait to smack. Her comic-print tennis shoes made her cool and casual at the same time.
