The Troublemaker - Page 42

“You did it,” I say, laughing, tears still streaming down my face.

“With you, anything is possible.” He kisses me then, and I forget about everyone in the room. I wrap my arms around him and kiss him harder, pulling him closer.

On the television, they’re showing more of his highlights and comparing him to his father, as they often do, but Mitchell seems unbothered, his attention is all on me. He pulls away slightly and kneels down. My heart stops beating.

“Mitch.”

“I know we said we didn’t care about getting married, but I lied.” He grins, opening a box with a huge diamond ring. “Will you marry me, Misty?”

I’m crying harder as I nod rapidly. As he slips the ring on my finger and stands up to kiss me, I hear myself say yes loudly, the sound coming from the television. I glance over to see that the cameraman has caught it all on camera and they’re airing our proposal for the world to see.

“Oh my God. Look at my hair.” I start fixing the loose strands and everyone laughs, including the commentators.

The camera cuts from us and they keep talking, now about the proposal, no longer about Mitch and his dad, and as we celebrate with our families, in the same penthouse we once were together in when we were teenagers, I don’t think I can get any happier.

“Best day of my life,” Mitch says, kissing me. “Best day of my entire fucking life.”

I couldn’t agree more.
