“Got finished earlier than anticipated. Rage is back home with Jolie. No other place I’d rather be than here with you, butterfly.” Bennet’s hand reaches mine, playing with the band on my finger that matches his.
“I’m glad. The house is too quiet when you’re gone. Maybe we should look at getting a dog from the shelter,” I bring up the idea that I’ve been toying around with for a few months now. It won’t be long before I’ll have to slow down on work as a massage therapist. I guess when choosing my career, I didn’t think about the future too much in the way of being pregnant and having a family.
“You’ve been talkin’ about doin’ that since the day we moved in here. It’ll be a lot of work. You ready to go down to part-time at work? I’m not always home, and it won’t be fair to have a dog cooped up in the house all day.” He’s right, which is normal these days.
“Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that. I know we have the mortgage and now a car payment. Is that even feasible?” I started my career shortly after I was done with my school, having to quit working at the Breezeway with Jolie, which doesn’t mean our friendship has diminished. If anything, it’s stronger than ever.
“Shila, butterfly. You don’t have to work another day in your life. I have us covered. Your nest egg is still makin’ bank sittin’ there, collectin’ interest, and I’m so busy with the club it’s a wonder I’m home. You wanna work, work. You wanna be a stay-at-home mom, do that.” He cups my cheek, hardworking hands to my softness, and I know Bennett means what he says.
“Okay, I think I’ll go down to part-time, take maternity leave for when our baby comes, and if it’s too much, then I’d like to stay home with him.”
“Fuck yeah, butterfly.” His voice is deep, husky, sending chills down my spine in the most delicious way possible.
“Kiss me?” The words no sooner leave my lips than his are on mine, tender at first, then dominating me in a way that I know will have both of us skin to skin in the coolness of the night.
EPILOGUE
SHADOW
Three Years Later
“Never thought I’d see the day, brother,” Rage tells me. It’s been a long road. Both of us are married, have Ol’ Ladies, children, and now running the Louisiana Chapter of the Diamondback MC. A lot of sleepless nights happened, worried wives, and a fuck ton of work.
“Me either.” I take a sip of beer. We’re standing at the bar in the newly formed clubhouse that’s in one of the old warehouses. The Texas Chapter should be rolling in tomorrow, a couple of guys in tow willing to move and become prospects, and then we’ll go from there. In the meantime, we’re keeping things small, for now at least. Being selective is key in our way of life.
My eyes clock in on Shila. Our boy, Silas, is on her hip, starting to nod off, but he picks his head back up, fighting it every step of the way. Shila gives me shit all the time how he is me reincarnate. She’s not wrong. He even has my demeanor, and sometimes I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. I watch her stomach and the all-showing proof that our next child is coming soon. This time, it’s a girl, and I know we’re in for a world of chaos.
“Hey.” She walks up to me. Silas’ eyes pop open but then droop down.
“Butterfly, you shouldn’t be carrying him around so much,” I admonish. She never did go back to work after Silas was born. The male in me was beating my chest. Another part knows how hard she worked to achieve that goal, mourned right along with her.
“I’m pregnant, Bennett, not handicapped.” She blows out a breath of air. Rage silently chuckles beside me before taking his leave. I’ll just bet he’s had similar situations with Jolie.
“Know that, Shila. I know exactly what you’re capable of, especially how you came on my tongue this morning and then strangled my cock, begging for more after you sucked the life out of me.” Her cheeks blaze with color, desire written all over her face. All these years later, nothing has settled down in the sex department. Somehow, it’s gotten better. This morning was no different, soft and sweet, her riding my face then my cock. Now, her trying to keep quiet and not wake up our little man, that was a much harder task and one that didn’t happen. Thankfully, Silas didn’t get out of his bed until we were cleaning up. I’m sure it would have put an end to our morning sex if that happened.
“Totally not fair. Silas isn’t asleep, and at the rate he’s going, it’ll never happen.”
