Then maybe I could figure out what the fuck type of hold this woman had over me.

Delilah

Even though I didn't think he would do it, Preston Walker proved himself throughout the week. We had team meetings with the rest of the teams in the building, and there was no one that was fired. We ended up picking out a wonderful new logo for the front of the office building, our productivity over the week boosted by fifteen percent, and Mr. Walker was attentive to everyone's needs and suggestions for the company.

There was nothing in my eyes that he had done wrong, so it was time for me to live up to my end of the deal.

I still had no idea why he wanted to take me out on a date. Probably because I was the only woman that had never given into his flirtatious advances the first time around. He probably saw me as some sort of challenge. Some sort of notch in his belt he could brag about later. How I played hard to get, but he caught me anyway. But if he thought I was going to be sleeping with him, then he had another thing coming. Even with all of that swirling around in my head, however, I figured the least I could do was go and enjoy a romantic evening out.

After all, women like myself didn't get many of those.

I didn't own many dresses, but the one I settled on was bright green with a light blue sash that wrapped around my waist. It tied into a bow in the back and zipped up, which made me feel covered despite the fact that it hugged my body a little too much. I pulled out my nice black cardigan and pulled it onto my arms, then buttoned it at my waist to accentuate the light dip I had. I slipped into a pair of matching blue heels--the only pair I really owned--and let my hair fall down between my shoulder blades before I took a look at my contacts again.

I didn't know if the fight to get them in my eyes was going to be worth it, so I reached for my glasses and stuck them on my face. I looked as good as I was going to get, and he was going to have to deal if I didn't look suitable enough to be at his side.

I promised him a date. I didn't promise him I would look nice for it.

I went downstairs to the lobby of my apartment and looked around to see if I could find him. I assumed he was going to be down here waiting for me promptly at seven o’clock, but instead a man in an all black suit and donning a cute little hat came up to me.

“Miss Delilah Kent?” he asked.

“Yes?”

“Mr. Walker is waiting for you at the restaurant,” he said.

“He’s already there?” I asked.

“Yes. He went to set a few things up. I am here to drive you.”

I allowed the man to escort me to a town car that was sitting outside my apartment building. It was a sleek black car, with chrome accents and tinted windows. The state of the car didn't shock me in the slightest, but I did giggle when the driver opened the door for me to get in. I wasn’t used to this kind of treatment, and I figured as long as Preston was going to slather it on thick I was going to drink it up.

We drove all the way across town and pulled into one of the most expensive restaurants in the Philadelphia area. It was a restaurant I had passed by many times to get to one of my favorite book stores, and I always wondered what it looked like inside. The driver parked the car and came around to open my door, but before I could step out a familiar hand dipped into the confines of the tinted automobile.

“Preston,” I said as I took his hand.

“Delilah,” he said as he helped me out of the car.

He helped me to my feet and then raised his hand for me to spin. I wasn't sure if he was analyzing me or simply taking me in, but when I found his eyes he was smiling.

“You look fantastic,” he said.

My eyes traveled up and down the all-black suit he was wearing for our date.

“And you look…phenomenal.”

“I thought you would enjoy it,” he said.

“You match the car,” I said.

“Does that mean you’ll be taking me for a spin as well?” he asked.

“Wow,” I said, laughing. “Way to jump into what you really want.”

“At least there isn’t any blurred lines,” he said.

I wasn’t sure whether to be flattered or annoyed that he just revealed he wanted to sleep with me.
