Biting back a moan, I tilted my hips and crooked my finger to reach my gland. I gasped, careful to keep as quiet as possible since the walls were thin. Fuck, I loved fingering myself. I rode waves of bliss, working my cock with my other hand and breathing hard.

Sometimes, my mind went totally blank when I did this. But tonight, it was all Sam. Sam on top of me, my legs spread for him as he fucked me. Moaning in my ear, kissing me, sweaty and messy and smiling.

Straining, I pulled back my foreskin and thumbed the head of my leaking cock while I rubbed my prostate. Did Sam play with his ass? Would he like it? What would he think if he saw me now?

My back arched as I pretended Sam was watching me. Would he get off on this? Would he come inside me—would he come all over me?

Shaking, I spurted all over myself, imagining it was Sam’s jizz painting my stomach and splashing my chest hair. Imagining he was smiling down at me, his new highlighted hair messy, his dimples huge.

On the mattress, my phone buzzed, and I just about jumped out of my cum-smeared skin as Sam’s face appeared on the screen, blinding in the darkness. I couldn’t do a video chat like this, so I declined it but called him right back.

“Hey,” I said. “Sorry, it’s too dark for video.” Not a lie, exactly.

“It’s cool. You okay? You sound like you’re working out.”

I concentrated on slowing my breathing. “Just rushed to get the phone. How did Henry do?” I hadn’t even looked up any of the results.

“Good! I barely made it back in time to see him. I didn’t have my ticket, but one of the volunteers recognized me and convinced them Henry Sakaguchi’s brother definitely wasn’t trying to scam his way in. Anyway, he had a clean skate, but he’s still in second. The judges are loving everything Theo does these days. He could probably pick his nose at center ice and win as long as he lands his jumps cleanly.”

“Henry must hate him more than ever.” Even though it was up to the judges, sometimes it was hard not to resent certain skaters for getting ridiculously high and undeserved performance scores.

Sam scoffed. “He’d like to think so, but Henry’s too secretly soft to actually hate Theo. It’s honestly adorable that he tries.” After a pause, he asked, “How are you doing?”

“Fine.” I yanked the covers over me, my face hot even though Sam couldn’t see me and had no way of knowing that I’d just jerked off.

Or that I’d been imagining him.

“Dude, come on.”

“Yeah, okay. Not the greatest. I don’t really want to talk about it. I don’t know what to think. We’ve worked so hard for so many years, and now…”

“Yeah. It’s not fair. I mean, it is, but it isn’t.”

“Exactly.”

I didn’t have to explain it to Sam. God, that was such an amazing feeling, and I missed him so much I was afraid I’d start crying. Calls and texts and playing League were all great, but I needed to see him. I needed my best friend.

“Can you come to Mont-Tremblant? I know you have to spend Christmas with your family, but just for a couple of days? It would be cool to hang in person.”

He was silent, and I was about to tell him never mind when he said, “That would be awesome. I need to see my grandpa in Toronto for sure, but let me ask Mom and Dad. Henry won’t care. But is there a place for me to stay? Not sure I have the money for a hotel room at Tremblant in December.”

“You can stay with me! The performers all get little cabins. They’re not paying us much, so it’s one of the perks. Doubt there’s a view, but…”

“Fuck the view. As long as we can hang, I’m in. I miss you, man.”

My heart was ready to burst out of my chest. Now that Bree had put it in my head, I couldn’t help but hope. Did Sam like me back? Was it possible?

No. I couldn’t go down that path. I said, “This is going to be an amazing Christmas.”

Sam was my best friend and nothing more. We’d get to hang in person again for the first time in way too long, and that was all. That was more than enough.

Chapter Three

Sam

Holy crap. Whoever decked these fancy halls was really into Christmas and had a huge ladder.

Duffel bag tugging on my shoulder, I turned in a circle. The lobby of the Pinnacle Resort featured a massive ceiling with timber beams wrapped in glittering red garlands with green pine boughs that looked real. I couldn’t be sure since they seemed a thousand feet up.

The place was not only huge but extremely shiny and plush. Everything looked brand new, which I guess it was since the resort had only opened in the summer. It was all glass, wood, and velvet, but in a modern way. Aside from the employees behind the long reception desk, there were only a few people around.
