He neither agreed or disagreed.

“My vision got lost, not because of Rancik; it was because of me. Because I was so concerned about what other people would think. I didn’t want my personal life to interfere with my professional life. But when I’m with you, you make me shine.”

"Easiest job I ever had,” he said.

“Will you take me back?”

“I never let you go.”

“I meant my show. Will you take me back as a business partner?”

“I never took your name down from the marquee,” he said. “Your name is in lights on my theater, just as it’s blazed across my heart.”

“I told you your future,” she said. “I forgot to mention that it was mine too. I’ve fallen hard for you.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll always make sure there’s a cushion where you land.”

Lark looked over to the side where the mattress beneath the trap door had been perfectly lined up. Then she turned back to the man who made her heart turn tricks.

Omar brought his lips to hers in a firework of a kiss that made her see stars. What was between them was no illusion. It was pure. It was magic.
