I feel Leo move in, and he asks, “Everything okay here?”
Glancing over my shoulder, I smile and nod. “I think so.”
He squeezes my hip as he moves to fill some orders, but I feel his eyes on us. Jessie’s loud, panicked moan drags my attention back to her.
“Adam,” she growls.
“What?”
“Adam is here.” She ducks her head but points over her shoulder. “What the hell am I supposed to do?”
“Dance with me,” Evan says, and shrugs when our eyes focus on him. “I haven’t danced in years, but I’m sure I can manage a slow dance if you’re game,” he offers Jessie.
Jessie blinks and for the first time she actually sees the guy, which causes panic to flutter through me. The guy is attractive in an older man sort of way, but he’s just a stranger in a bar.
“Sis, stop worrying,” Jessie drawls and jumping down from the stool, stands beside Evan. “Let’s dance.” She smiles.
Evan clears his throat and standing, places his hand on Jessie’s back. He leans over the bar and begs, “Please tell me she’s at least over eighteen.”
At first I don’t know how to answer, but when I meet his gaze and see the worry there, I whisper, “She’s twenty.” He visibly relaxes, but not by much.
I watch them go and smile when Leo’s hand trails down my back to curve over my hip in a possessive move. “What was that all about?”
“He was checking if she was legal,” I frown. “He looks…sad, I guess.”
“He looks too old for her,” he whispers into my ear, sending goose bumps all over my skin.
Turning to face him, I slip my fingers into the front of his jeans and tug him closer. Leo’s gaze focuses on my lips as I reply, “He offered to dance with her because she’s hiding from someone Mom is trying to get her back together with. She isn’t interested.” I grin and rub my finger into his belly, smiling as he growls.
“When you two have, um, finished, can we get some drinks,” Callie hollers down the bar.
Turning, I roll my eyes at the wicked look on Callie’s face. I shake a finger in her direction and laugh.
“We’ll get back to that position later,” I promise Leo.
His eyes darken and before I know what he has planned, he quickly kisses me followed by a smack on my bottom. “I’ll hold you to that.” He walks in the opposite direction, leaving me to my sister-in-law, but not before I catch a glimpse of the bulge behind his zipper.
Smiling to myself, I move in front of Callie and let my grin widen. “What can I get you?”
“Hmm,” she sighs and rests her head in her hands on the bar. “That”—she points—“was getting really hot.” She raises a brow. “I’m waiting.”
“I didn’t know you were that thirsty,” I reply, knowing that wasn’t what she meant.
I quickly grab their drinks and place them on a tray in front of Callie, who is still smiling and her eyes are alight with mischief. “What?” I finally demand.
“You need a break, and so does your hot guy.”
“Callie, we can’t take a break together.”
“Who says?” She reaches for the tray. “Sue and David just arrived, and Kix isn’t that busy yet.” She smiles. “Go take a break now before it gets too busy in here.”
Callie moves her eyes between us before she lifts the tray and walks back to their table.
“Take a break,” I mumble. “Can we?”
Sue comes behind the bar and starts flirting with Leo, so that kind of answers my own question.
Moving behind Sue, I say, “Hey, we’ve been waiting for you and David to arrive. We’re going to take a break while it isn’t busy.” I don’t give her a chance to reply, and grabbing hold of Leo’s hand, our fingers intertwine. Leo’s face lights up with amusement, but there’s something else in his eyes and I have a feeling that I’m about to get into the naughty kind of trouble. “We’re taking thirty,” I shout over my shoulder as Leo drags me from behind the bar.
