“Tell me about you. All I know is that you work for the McKenzies, and have a brother.” He smiled to encourage Sylvia to talk. Up until tonight, they’d hardly spoken and when they had, something shitty had always come out of his mouth. Well, no more.

“My parents, Joy and Tim, own a small dairy farm. It doesn’t make a lot of money but enough for them to live on. My brother’s wife, Kelly, helps out and she’s awesome working a tractor. Pissed my brother, Kane, off at first.” She paused and chuckled as her eyes turned dreamy, obviously remembering something funny. “In fact, that’s how they met. She applied for the position of part-time hand, and proved her worth, not just to my parents, but to my brother. He didn’t want anyone to get through to him after his military career came to an end.” She paused for a sip of her wine. “It took a while but he’s happy now, and totally adores his wife and baby girl.” She sighed.

“You miss them?” he observed.

“I do. I miss my niece a lot. She’s growing up and I’m not there to see it. When I visit, it takes a day or two for her to warm up to me, and act like herself instead of a shy little girl. But I love them, and I’ll go home at Christmas for a few days before Ramon and Noah get married.”

He needed to accept that she wasn’t hung up on his cousin. She’d never acted like she was. It had been him who really had the problem. He’d never been jealous of anyone before he’d met Sylvia, but he was with her. He wanted and needed her to have eyes for him alone.

She was even more beautiful when she let her guard down and her nerves settled.

Chapter Eight

Cozy in the truck with Eric, it was on the tip of Sylvia’s tongue to ask him to take her back to his place. Although they’d started off bumpy, the meal and talking inside the restaurant had made her want more and for the night to never end, but she didn’t want to appear to be an easy lay.

The attraction was mutual, and when they were together they combusted in a hot swirl of passion. She knew they had more than hot sex between them and she hoped that wasn’t all Eric really wanted, regardless of what he’d said.

She wasn’t devious, but she wasn’t past using her womanly charm to get him to keep going back to her for more, and she could hope that one day he’d stay.

A girl could hope.

Her body was full of nervous energy as they got stuck in traffic close to Poles. She was scheduled to work tomorrow night, and it was something that she dreaded. There would be another note waiting for her to find at some point during her shift. She really should have mentioned something to Yuri because he wouldn’t allow it to continue, and he’d probably have found the guy. She’d been worried at first that Yuri would ask her to leave, but now that she’d seen how he worked, she knew that wouldn’t have been an option. She really should have listened to Talya about Yuri.

She’d started to enjoy the feel of freedom, and knowing that she could dance to entice a reaction out of people gave her confidence that she wouldn’t have normally felt. She wasn’t the most confident person, but when she was on stage with her eyes closed, she would get lost in her own world and shut out the crowd of watchers.

Eric sighed, and cursed before he glanced at Sylvia. “We didn’t finish talking about Poles, did we?”

“There isn’t anything to talk about.” She turned toward the window and stared out at the traffic. She refused to listen to him about her choice of extra job.

It had nothing to do with him so he could just leave it alone.

“Sylvia, I seriously don’t like that place,” he growled.

“Look, I’ve no wish to start an argument and I think we need to agree to change the subjec

t, at least, for now.”

The silence lasted a few minutes while she stared at his profile. His jaw was clenched tight, as though an argument brewed in his throat, but he thought better of letting it lose.

She wanted for them to be at each other’s mercy again because the thought of his mouth between her thighs made her squirm on the seat.

Eventually his lips started to twitch. “You enjoying the view?” He quickly glanced at her before he concentrated on the traffic again. “What are you thinking about to have that blush creeping onto your face?”

“Hmm,” she mumbled, wondering whether she had the courage to do what her hands were itching to do, and touch him while he drove.

Eric was a hot blooded guy who loved to have his hands on her. But did she have the courage to reach out and appreciate the man beside her?

While she was enjoying the view of him, he fidgeted. It wasn’t really noticeable, but a slight shift in the seat drew her eyes. They popped wide when they landed on the large bulge behind his zipper, which she wouldn’t be surprised if he popped wide open.

Pulling up at the lights, Eric turned to glare at Sylvia, and growled, “You need to stop looking at me, Sylvia...especially at my hard cock.” His hands flexed on the steering wheel before he reached down and rearranged himself.

A bolt of lust shot through her with his blunt words, and as she squirmed in her seat, he smirked.

She would make him squirm.

Feeling brave or horny, take your pick, she reached out and, with one finger, traced the rigid length that was pulsing behind his zipper while he pulled away from the lights.

His loud curse filled the cab of the truck, his flesh quivered under her touch, but she couldn’t stop touching him now that she’d started.
