If I didn’t know what Eric and Sylvia were up to in the barn, I’d go and saddle my horse. Instead I follow Felicity inside.

It doesn’t take long to find her as I hear Blake mumbling to her from his room. Knowing I shouldn’t be caught listening, but do it anyway, I lean against the wall.

“What’s going to happen when he heads back to New York?”

“You’re going to stay here and get back on your feet, and I’m going to go with Kasey.”

There’s a pause. “I’m going to worry about you being so far away in a city you hate.”

“Please don’t worry about me. I want and need you to concentrate on yourself.”

“You do realize that Kasey will be training all day, every day, sometimes into the evenings?”

“I’ll find something to do.”

“Like what?”

“I, um, I have lots of unread books on my kindle. I’ll read.”

“Sis, you can’t spend all your time inside reading. You need fresh air.”

“I’ll be fine.”

“Who are you trying to convince?”

She sighs. “Why do you always have to make me think about things that I’m trying not to?”

“Because you can’t hide, Felicity.”

“He says we can look for somewhere outside of the city, but close enough for him to get to the rink. It’s going to work, Blake.”

“I hope for your sake that it does because I can see how much you love him.”

Listening to their conversation makes me wish that I’d carried on to my room so that I hadn’t heard. I guess I was right about how miserable Felicity is going to be in New York, and now, I know what I need to do.

Rubbing my chest where I feel as though a fist is crushing my heart, I quickly head into my room. My head is telling me to leave her here where she’s happy until I can find us somewhere else to live, but my heart is telling me to take her with me—to keep her close.

Felicity

For the past week Blake has been cooperating better with Violet during his physical therapy, but I’ve felt that Kasey has been pulling away. I can’t put my finger on it, but every night he’s fallen into bed exhausted and instead of making love to me, he’s held me close and slept.

Our days have been full and I’ve enjoyed my time of being shown the beautiful state of Montana. I just wish that I knew why Kasey was being like he is. The last time we’d been intimate was in the barn and I missed him.

Like now, as I sit on the porch swing, he’s still attentive, and makes sure that I’m comfortable, but something’s missing and I’m afraid of asking him about it.

“Do you want to come with me into town?” he asks.

I want to say yes, but that would involve getting dressed and acting like everything in my world is fine, and my heart isn’t exactly in it today. “No, I’m fine here.” I give him a small smile.

He frowns. “You

sure?”

I’m saved from answering him as Mateo appears from around the back of the house. “Hey, are you all packed?”

I freeze at his words and glance at Kasey who looks like he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
