The Dancer - Page 134

“What are you doing here so early?” I looked behind her before closing the door, expecting to see the rest of the gang.

“Didn’t Annabelle tell you? We’re going to get our hair done. Where you at girl?”

She walked down the hallway headed for my room like she lived her. Now I usually stay out of Sherrie’s way since she hit puberty and lost her damn mind, but not this time. “No she didn’t tell me, and no she can’t go.”

“And why the hell not? My girl is closed on Mondays and this was the only spot I could get. Besides I saw your goon squad pulling up outside.”

“That’s because I was going to take my girl to brunch and to the park later.”

“Lame.” Anna came out the bedroom dressed and ready, which meant she knew about this shit and either forgot or chose not to tell me. That nice glow I had going after the night and morning we shared started to fade fast.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Oh, I forgot to mention, Sherrie and I have a date. It’s been a while since I had my hair done professionally.” She got on her toes and gave me one of those dismissive kisses, but when she went to walk away I grabbed her.

“Hold it, where exactly is this salon?”

“Downtown, now let’s go we have an appointment but if we get there late someone else will take it.”

“Downtown where?” I followed them to the door not believing this shit.

“SOHO.” Sherrie yelled before dragging Anna onto the elevator. I ran to the window with my phone at my ear to warn my guys that they were headed down.

You’d think I would be happy to have the day to myself to watch the game, but for the first time since the months following my injury I couldn’t get into it.

I prowled around the apartment like a little lost boy and for some reason couldn’t remember any of the shit I did when she wasn’t here. Tony came over an hour later thank fuck.

“What’s eating you?”

“Your damn sister came and took my girl.”

“And?”

“Shut up.”

“You really are pitiful; let’s watch the game.”

I followed him into the media room and dropped my ass down on the couch because he took my chair. I can’t believe I’m that guy. I looked at my phone tempted to call her.

I can’t even blame it on my fear of her being attacked, or the fact that she’s running around the

city with my certifiable sister, it was none of those things. I just don’t know what to do with myself. ‘Tell me this shit gets better.”

“It doesn’t, now shut the hell up; my boys are up by three.”

“Did you come over here to annoy me?”

“No, I came to keep you company because I knew the girls were going to get their hair done today and this…” He waved his hand up and down at me. “Would be happening. You gotta get a grip bruh.”

“Everyone else already knows she’s got you by the balls, you let her figure that shit out I’m gonna have to kick you out the club.”

“I’m gonna marry her.”

“Well yeah!”

Asshole!

“That’s it? That’s all you have to say?”

“Just tell me what you need me to do. Aunt Sophie’s already talking the country club in Westbury, ma knows some hotshot wedding planner and I’m sure Sherrie will have everything else covered.”

“Say what now?”

“Yep, I would’ve told you, but you were in your

head for the past few days. The women already have shit all planned out. Your girl wasn’t in on it either.”

What the hell is going on in my life? “When did all this happen?”

“I think sometime yesterday, so you better get your ass in gear.”

“I was planning to ask her after the opening.”

“Oh were you?”

“Okay, I’m going to tell her, but there’s something we have to do first.”

I spent the next half hour telling him my grand plan in between him calling me unflattering names and making fun of my now dead manhood as he calls it. “Does it seem too soon? She’s gonna think it’s too soon.”

“Since when has that stopped you? I’m surprised you let her out of the house with Sherrie without the rock of Gibraltar on her hand.” Fucking Sherrie. She’s my sister and I love her, but the girl is an awful flirt.

“Now why would you put that shit in my head?”

“I have something else for you to chew on. Aaron Bridgewater and his new wife checked into the midtown Marriot last night.” I didn’t know what the hell was talking about for a minute and then I caught it.

“The fuck is he doing there?”

‘Take a wild guess, where are you going?”

“To have a chat with this asshole. I told him she didn’t want to see him, what’s he trying to prove?”

“Max, chill down. This is her dad, you never know with these relationships. She might hate him today, but that shit could change on a dime.”
