Top Dog - Page 316

“Yes. I’m perfect. Thanks. I can’t share details, but I’m in one of those magical castles you told me about.”

“No shit? That’s awesome!”

“Yeah, I might just start believing in magic, after all.” I smiled thinking about Chance. He had proven to me what a great guy he could be, and the sex was so amazing I couldn’t wait to get back home just to tell her about it. My little slit clenched thinking about his big cock in me, filling me up in more ways than one. I needed him inside me again, soon.

“Oh, no. You have that sound in your voice.” Lindy made a sound of disapproval. “Don’t lose sight of your goal, friend. You almost sound like a woman in love. That’s only going to lead to heartbreak.”

She was right. I had my father to worry about and needed to keep my eyes on the prize. This time would be shorter than I thought and with just a week to go, I didn’t want things to get too deep. He’d be done with me soon enough.

We ended the call, and Rick was ready with the other to my dad. I talked to him long enough to make sure he was okay and to tell him I was enjoying my trip, which I wasn’t sure he understood. His medicines had him a little loopy, and I hoped that after the treatment he’d be back to his old self.

I ended the call, and before I could go to the bathroom and pick up where I’d left off, I had to get ready for dinner.

An hour later, Chance came in a little late than expected. “I’m sorry. There was some business back home, and I got stuck in a conference call.” He didn’t look happy, but he offered a half-hearted smile and then took my hand.

“It’s okay. I had a little extra time for my hair.” I turned around and showed him the intricate braids I’d done in a coronet style which crowned my head.

“It’s beautiful.” He pulled me close. “You did that yourself?”

“Well, yes, I had to keep my fingers busy.” I pushed my hips forward and ground against him.

He made a growling noise and gripped my ass pulling me closer. “Turned on and tempted?”

I didn’t tell him that I’d tried to cheat and left it at that. “Yes. Very.”

“You weren’t a bad girl, were you?” Something on my face must have given me away, as I was never one to have a poker face. “Mm. I’ll have to punish you later; I was hoping you’d misbehave just so I could.” I wasn’t going to tell him that I hadn’t really had the chance, but if he was so excited about punishing me, I’d gladly take it.

We went to dinner and had a great time. The charming restaurant had some of the best food I’d ever tasted, and Chance made sure I ate more than I wanted.

“You should build your energy. You’ll need it to survive the punishment I have in store.”

I pulled my lip in and shifted in the seat feeling myself grow damp. “What’s your favorite movie?” I asked as a distraction. We’d gone down the list of our favorite things, and it had felt more like an official date than I’d expected to have during my stay.

“I’m not much of a movie fan, but I used to watch the classics with my mother.”

“My favorite movie is a classic. The Philadelphia Story, with Stewart, Grant, and Hepburn. You can’t get better casting than that. And the romance,” I let out a little sigh. “I guess I’ve always liked the ending when they get back together. He knows that she’s his girl and they belong together.”

He leaned in closer. “It sounds like a good one. Maybe we’ll have to see it. I have a private theater back home—”

He looked away, catching himself. There was no back home for us. This was all we had.

He gave me an apologetic look. “I’m sorry. It’s just I find myself so comfortable with you, and I guess the issue back home has me a little aggravated.”

“It’s okay.” I gave him a polite smile and took another bite of my food.

I knew he wouldn’t elaborate, he couldn’t, but it was okay, I understood. The contract was signed, and it was best left alone. We spent the rest of our dinner eating quietly and sitting in awkward silence, and when we got home, he simply curled up beside me in bed and held me until we fell asleep, with no punishment or attempt at sex. I had a feeling whatever had happened back home, had him more than a little bit distracted.

CHAPTER ELEVEN - CHANCE

I felt horrible for leading Carrie on and decided to plan something nice to make it up to her. But first, I’d have to call home and talk to Nate and make sure things were okay. I’d talked to him one minute, and things were going smoothly, but then he’d called later in the day to tell me that our top investors were going to bail over the fact that the environmental codes for the location were not up to standard.

I dialed Nate, fully prepared to have him tell me I had to go home.

“No, you don’t have to leave. I’ll come up there and get you to sign the agreements they drew up. They say that you’ll be one hundred percent responsible if there is any backlash, and that you’ll respect the codes.”

“I’ve already told them that. Did you send the list of updates we plan to make?” I didn’t understand the confusion. “Why would they think that I’m that kind of businessman in the first place?”

“I’ll handle it. I’ll be up later this evening. Don’t let it get you down. Enjoy your day.”
