I’m laughing so hard from Luna’s observation that I’m crying. I lean over, grabbing the counter with one hand and my belly with the other. It’s all fun and games until I feel my water break. A surge of wetness hits my thighs.
“Did you pee yourself again?” Luna asks, laughing until she sees my face. She jumps up and runs over to me. She opens her mouth to scream for Cullen but I put my hand over her mouth.
“Shh. If you scream Cullen is going to come and make me go to the hospital. He’s never going to let me eat the rest of my cake. It will only take a few minutes.” She nods her approval so I slowly take my hand from her mouth.
I take a bite of the buttery deliciousness and savor it. It’s the best dessert that I’ve made so far. I’ve outdone myself. If I do say so myself. My moment of dessert heaven is interrupted by what feels like the worst pain of my life.
I grab my stomach as a contraction hits. I cover my mouth to keep from yelling out. It passes a moment later and I feel perfectly fine. I go for another slice of cake. They aren’t going to feed me at that hospital once I get there. I just know it.
“You sure you don’t want to call Cullen? They are just finishing up some things in the nursery.”
“What’s wrong?” Cullen bursts into the kitchen. Luna looks anywhere but at Cullen ‘cause she can’t lie to save her life.
“I peed myself.” I shove a bite of cake in my mouth. Cullen shakes his head at me.
“I’ll get the bags.” He walks over to me. “And I’ll pack you a to-go for the car.” I smile up at him before he kisses me. He always knows what I need.
“You ready for this, shortcake?” He lifts his hand, wiping cake from the side of my mouth. He brings it to his mouth.
“With you I’m ready for anything.” I know I can do anything with this man by my side.
“Love you, wife.”
“I love you too,” I say, knowing the next Chapter of our lives is going to be perfect.
Cullen will make sure of it. That man has never let me down. He never will.
