Saving Dallas (Saving Dallas 1) - Page 13

“You ready for that tour?” I asked, blushing in response. He smiled at me, showing off his perfect teeth and making my mouth water.

“Absolutely.”

Chapter 4

Even though I lived there and saw it every day, I couldn’t help my excitement as I grabbed his hand and led him to the back of the house starting with the guest bedroom that was once the room of the children that lived there.

“I left this room just as it was. Not to make it a shrine or anything, but I felt the family would have appreciated it. It belonged to the children, Jessie and Katie. From the stories I have been told, the children who were only a year apart, were inseparable. They were only seven and eight years old when they died.” The melancholy in my voice must have been obvious.

“Well, I think you did the right thing,” Luke said giving my hand a squeeze. I realized at that moment that I had not let him go since we left the kitchen. We took a minute, standing in silence looking at the room. The two twin canopy beds were separated by a single table with a lamp. A pair of matching dressers sat on the wall facing the beds. A blue painted toy box sat next to a small desk and chair with drawing paper and pens.

“I hate the colors of the walls,” I said breaking us both from our reverie. “I think it’s too dark... Maybe I’ll repaint it a lighter blue one day.” Not wanting to damper the mood, I pulled him out of the room and across the hall to my bedroom. “And this,” I said opening my door and dancing into my bedroom. “Is where the magic happens.” It had taken me months to finish this room.

The house was older so all the walls were covered in brown paneling. I stripped it all out replacing it with sheetrock and painting it a deep mauve. It had sliding glass patio doors leading outside to the pool. The bed was a custom made, California King Sized, mahogany hard wood sleigh with a four-inch memory foam that would give you the impression you were sleeping on clouds.

There was no artwork on the walls because in the two years I had lived here, I had never been able to make up my mind on exactly what it was I wanted. “And the bathroom here has the most amazing shower….” I trailed off. Luke was staring at me with a dubious look on his face. “What?” I asked, totally confused.

“Magic?” he asked me, in that way that made me feel like there was no right answer.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, noticing for the first time the darkness in his eyes.

“You said this was where the magic happens. I thought you weren’t in a relationship,” he said piercing me with his darkened stare.

“I’m not Luke. I was just joking. I guess it was a figure of speech?” I said not even convincing myself.

“Do you make a habit out of bringing strangers to your house only to ridicule them by leading them on, and then suggesting that you make ‘magic’ happen in a bedroom that you sleep in every night?”

Woh... What the hell had happened to him? “No, Luke I didn’t mean it that way.”

“Well just what in the hell did you mean, Dallas?” he snapped at me causing me to jerk my head back like I had just been slapped. “Look, it’s been fun but I’m not into playing your game. I won’t share and I won’t be taunted by you and stories of your ex-lovers while in this god-forsaken house,” he said, raising his voice staring at me as if I had two heads. What the hell was happening? He had done a complete one-eighty in less than a minute.

“Look, I don’t know what your problem is, but you’re scaring me,” I admitted.

In two steps he was in front of me, grabbing my face and kissing me hard. It happened so fast I didn’t even have time to step away from him, not that I wanted to. I returned his kiss with just as much determination. Kissing him made me lose my mind, and this time I was not going to let him get away. I grabbed his neck, pulling him further deepening the kiss. When he pulled away we were both breathing heavy. My lips were bruised and hurting, but I wanted more. I grabbed his neck once again bringing him to my mouth. The moan that escaped my lips must sent him over the edge, because the next thing I knew he had me scooped up in his arms and was throwing me on the bed.

“Does it turn you own when people scare you Dallas?” he asked, with a look in his eyes like he was ready to kill me. My panties became soaked at the sight of him. Danger did turn me own. It drove me crazy, and he had figured it out.
