The Last Hard Boy (The Hard Boys 3) - Page 28

“They’re afraid of my mother. Believe me, Jane Hard is a pain in the ass.”

She laughed. “I see you inherited that.”

“Hey, I’m a cute pain in the ass.”

“That is also true.”

They finally arrived at her place.

She unbuckled her seatbelt. “Wait here.” After climbing out of the car, she went to the trunk and removed the bags, taking them inside.

So Rome didn’t have to risk going up and down stairs, she’d turned her living room into a bedroom, complete with a sofa bed.

The old sofa had been donated to charity. She made sure everything was set up, and with Rome distracted in the car, she quickly changed out of her jeans and shirt into something a little more special for Rome.

Pulling on a long jacket, she covered her little surprise and headed out to the car.

She turned off the ignition as she’d left it running so he wouldn’t get cold.

Once she’d grabbed his crutches, she moved around to help him, and he stepped out of the car, taking a few seconds to gain his balance.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“Yep, I’ve got it. I’m fine.”

“Good.”

She closed his door and followed close behind him, locking her front door as they entered. “Through there, that’s it.”

Andy waited until he’d sat on the edge of the bed.

“You know I wouldn’t have minded going up and down stairs,” he said.

“The doctor said your stubborn ass needs time to heal properly. You will be doing some form of exercise every single day.” She put her hand on her hips, hoping he got the message.

He looked up at her. “Did you change jackets to come and get me?”

She smiled. “You’ve got a good eye.” She pulled on the belt that kept the jacket up and let it fall to the floor, revealing the very sexy nurse’s uniform she’d purchased. “I figured you were going to be a grouch, but if I dressed up for the role, you might learn to be a good boy.”

“Holy fuck.” His hands went to her hips, sliding up and down, then around toward her ass. “You got this for me?”

“Yes. Do you like?”

“Very much so.”

“Then be a good boy, and I will wear it for you. Not when your parents come. I will have to quickly change, but I have been practicing,” she said.

“You’ve practiced getting naked?”

“Not just getting naked. I have it down to one minute. Want to see?” she asked.

He laughed. “Sure.”

She pulled her cell phone out of her back pocket, finding the stopwatch app, and then handed it to him. “Ready?”

“Yes.”

Andy started to remove the uniform with quick movements. She got completely naked and then changed into the pair of sweatpants and sweater she had close by.

Feeling a little out of breath, she waited for him to press stop.

“Okay, now I’m impressed,” he said.

She laughed. “See, I’m ready for anything.”

“How about we time you getting into the uniform?” he asked.

Andy chuckled. “Maybe if you’re a good boy, you will get to enjoy a show of watching me undress and redress?”

“Now that, I would love to see.”

Chapter Nine

Being on bed rest sucked big time.

Rome loved to move around. He loved to be mobile, but the one saving grace he felt in all of this was Andy.

She was … precious.

The first night he was at her place, she cooked them both dinner and forced him to have an early night. She didn’t have a television, so she curled up in the chair, in the nurse’s uniform, and read him as he went to sleep.

The second night, he convinced her to sleep close to him.

The third night, his mother came around for a visit, and as it was snowing, there was no nurse’s uniform. Andy went to her bedroom to sleep, which he wasn’t happy about, but it wasn’t like he could change her mind either.

His mother was turning into a cock blocker.

By the fourth day, Andy allowed him to do some work as she cleaned and did laundry. He wasn’t allowed to do too much.

His brothers stopped by for a visit, as did their wives, which was nice. Even though he and Andy should be alone, he couldn’t help but feel like he spent less time with her than when he wasn’t on bedrest.

Thankfully, the fifth day, Andy was back in the nurse’s uniform and helping him move around. The crutches were a pain, but at least he could move around, and the doctor had said something about him needing a couple of weeks.

His leg hadn’t been as bad as his parents had originally thought. He did need some surgery, but it was only minor, to help his leg mend properly.

Only every now and then was he in any kind of pain.

Andy flitted from one room to the next, and he realized it had been an entire week that he’d been living in her house.
