“I’ve dreamt of doing this with you more times than I can count,” he rasped, rubbing his hand along my thigh, where it was resting on the crook of his arm.
My other leg was wrapped around his hip, and I could feel the muscles tensing and releasing in it with each movement. I wasn’t the most flexible person in the world, but it was good to know I could at least enjoy the wonders of more sexual positions than the standard ones.
Rolling my head to kiss the wrist of his hand, which was braced in the bed next to me, I smiled softly. “Not many of my dreams have come true, but I’m glad this one has.”
I wasn’t confident enough to let it out as honestly as he had, and this was my attempt at trying to meet him halfway.
Lowering onto his forearm and using the hand that I’d just pecked to sweep the hair off the side of my face, Carter kissed me. It was heated and ramped up the feelings his cock was creating inside me, and it packed a punch that just a kiss from him could do that. Did mine do the same thing to him?
Finally, lifting his mouth off mine, he whispered, “I’m gonna do everything I can to make more of them come true, Nome.”
“I don’t need anything more than what I’ve got,” I told him honestly, my breath hitching through the words as he continued to thrust and withdraw. “I just need things to stay as they are because my life has everything I need in it now.”
With an infinitesimal shake of his head, he stopped moving. “You deserve more, so I’m going to see to it that you and Shanti get that.”
When I opened my mouth to repeat what I’d just said, he placed his thumb over my lips, stopping me. “I get that you’re happy with what you’ve got, but I’m going that you get more. Life doesn’t just hand us a couple of good things and that’s it. It gives us more, hiding them around corners and under rocks for us to stumble across. I’m going to help you find them more easily, and I’m going to bring you ones you didn’t even think were waiting for you.”
Shit. I’d never wished for more. All I’d wanted since I’d become Shanti’s guardian was for her to be okay, but with Carter, I was making those wishes.
It wasn’t that I was suddenly feeling selfish or changing my mind on a whim and the promise of good stuff—I wanted more for him and Shanti, and I wanted to see their faces when they got it. If it made him happy to see me get that, awesome, but I also wanted to be the one who gave him the good things that made him smile, too.
Pulling him back down for another kiss, I poured my heart and soul into it, hoping he’d understand what I was feeling through that alone.
But just in case he didn’t…
Pulling my head back, I murmured against his lips, “The way I see it, we’ve all got some happiness and good things out there waiting for us. If you get to give me and Shanti ours, we get to give you yours.”
He stopped moving and stared at me for a moment. Then, like he’d made his mind up, he withdrew until just the tip of him was notched at my entrance and rolled his hips, slowly driving it back inside me to the base. “Deal.”
After that, he hitched the leg still resting on his forearm higher until it was extended straight, my ankle resting on his shoulder, and my body really starting to realize the limits of its dexterity. I wasn’t in pain but muscles I didn’t usually stretch were panicking.
That panicking quickly subsided when he increased the speed and strength behind the thrusts into me, and then my muscles forgot they even existed as I came. It hit me so hard and so suddenly that I did the only thing I could to mute the scream that burst out of me—I turned my head and sank my teeth into his wrist, making him growl and thrust even harder.
It might have been a moonlight and muted whispers session, but it was the most meaningful and beautiful one we’d had yet. And that said something.

Carter
Reaching out across the bed, I frowned when I found cold sheets where Nome should have been lying.
Squinting at the screen on the Alexa device on her side of the bed, I blinked when it sank in through the sleepy haze in my brain that it was an hour earlier than I usually got up. Given that I’d only gotten to wake up with Naomi on a workday once—yesterday—I wasn’t sure if this was her usual time. Still, a glance around found her sitting on the most uncomfortable looking chair, staring blindly out of the window as the sun began to change the sky from night to morning.
