“You’ve got stories about my mom?” she breathed.
“And photos. Have a look.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I watched as she pulled them out and stared at the cute little girl looking out at her from the paper.
“Well, one of the stories her friend told me—”
“Daddy,” she said quietly, looking up from the photo. “I didn’t know them, but I miss them. I’m glad I’ve got you and Mom, though.”
“What about Vaughan and Willow?”
Shanti’s shoulders slumped as she blew out a breath, but then an idea hit her that cheered her up again. “Can we do what Mi-mi did? Take them to the pound and exchange them for two dogs?”
