Beyond the Game (Out of Reach 2) - Page 22

My hands tremble as I place my key in the lock and turn the knob. The condo is dark as we step inside. I wait for Cameron to follow me inside before locking up and leading him down the hall to my room. As quietly as I can, I close my bedroom door.

“Bathroom?” he asks.

“Yeah, through there.” I point at the door.

“Thanks, babe.” He kisses my temple and quietly disappears into the bathroom.

I give myself five seconds to freak out before jumping into gear and grabbing clothes to sleep in. I can’t believe I’m doing this. This isn’t me. I don’t bring random men to my place, let alone with the intention of them spending the night. I’m not that girl. Sure, I’ve had hookups, but not in my space. Not in my home.

Before I can freak out any more, the bathroom door opens, and Cameron walks out wearing nothing but a pair of dark blue boxer briefs. I swallow hard as I take in his toned chest before averting my gaze back to his face. He gives me a lazy, sleepy grin before walking past me and placing his clothes on his bag. I rush to the bathroom and quickly change and brush my teeth before tying my hair up in a messy bun on top of my head.

Looking in the mirror at my sleep tank and shorts, I debate on removing my bra and decide I better keep it on. I’m a small C cup at best, but without the confines of my bra, it’s obvious, and this tank is thin. Decision made, I switch off the light and open the door.

I move to the bed where Cameron is standing. “I wasn’t sure which side you liked to sleep on.” His voice is soft as his hands land on my shoulders.

“I sleep alone.” My voice is soft but a stark reminder to both of us that this isn’t me.

“Not anymore,” he says, placing a kiss on my neck. “Isn’t this uncomfortable to sleep in?” he asks, sliding his index finger under my bra strap.

I shrug. “It’s fine.”

“Hey.” He turns me so that I’m facing him. The room is filtered with the glow of the full moon so I can make out his features. “It’s just me, Paisley. I’m not here to seduce you. I just want to sleep with you in my arms so that I don’t look like a monkey fucking a football out on the field tomorrow night.” He chuckles softly. “Take it off. I want you comfortable.”

All I can do is nod as I reach behind me and unhook my bra. It takes some maneuvering, but I get it off without removing my tank and toss it onto the chair in the corner of the room.

“Which side do you want?”

“Either.”

“Okay. I’ll take the one closest to the door.”

“Why?”

He shrugs. “If someone would ever break in, they’re going to have to get through me to get to you,” he says as if it’s no big deal. As if his words don’t have a direct line to my heart. “Come on, let’s get some rest.”

“Should we set the alarm?” I know my body, and I’ll wake up in plenty of time, but I don’t know if he needs to be at the stadium before me.

“Nah, I don’t have to be at the stadium until later in the afternoon. Let’s just sleep.” He reaches for the covers and pulls them back, motioning for me to climb onto the bed. I’m not sure why he asked which side I wanted when we’re both using this one, but I don’t say anything. I just climb under the covers and move to the opposite side.

“Come here, Paisley.” His voice is husky. I hesitate for a second before moving back to the center of my queen-sized bed. Cameron pulls me into his arms, and I rest my head on his chest. His lips press against my head before he relaxes into the mattress with me in his arms.

It doesn’t take long for his breathing to even out and drift off to sleep. Me, on the other hand, well, I can’t seem to shut my mind off. I don’t know what it is about this man that has me doing things I would have never done in the past.

Never would I let a man tell me he’s staying with me or that I’m staying with him. Especially not one I barely know, but here I am, wrapped up in his arms as if I’m his and he’s mine.

Chapter 8

Cameron

My eyes aren’t even open, and I know that I’m in her bed alone. I’d hoped to wake up with her in my arms, but I guess waking up in her bed is second best. Rolling over, I peel my eyes open to glance at the clock. It’s just after nine in the morning. It’s too damn early for either of us to be awake, which means Paisley is probably freaking out that I spent the night in her bed. Time to do damage control. Tossing the covers, I stand and stretch before going in search of her.

Slowly, I open her bedroom door and hear voices down the hall. I stop and listen to see what I’m dealing with in the light of day.

“How was your trip?”

“Good,” Paisley answers.

“Did you get to see Cameron?”
