“Really?”

I glance up at my friend.

“What?”

“No details?”

I shake my head. “When have I ever gone into detail about sleeping with a man?”

“Never,” she mutters. “In fact, I can’t remember the last time you even got laid.”

I chuckle because I can’t remember either, and honestly, some of that is because things went so well last night that no one else even compared.

“Faith?” We both turn to spot Pauline standing in the office doorway. “There’s a detective here to see you.”

Pauline steps to the side, revealing a handsome man.

“I guess that’s a no on lunch,” Sylvie says as she stands, no doubt assuming the man is here to talk about a case. She’s well aware of how private I am about my work.

“Maybe tomorrow,” I console as she gives me a little wave and walks out.

I don’t miss the way her head scans the length of the detective, and I can only imagine the look on her face as she openly checks him out.

“Married,” she says as she passes. “What a shame.”

The man keeps his eyes on me, not even acknowledging my friend despite how incredibly gorgeous she is. I think I like this guy already.

“Can I help you, Detective?”

The man looks from me to Pauline who is hovering nearby.

“Pauline, can you close the door, please?” I ask without looking away from the detective.

My office manager obliges, but I can tell from the look on her face before the door shuts that she’s disappointed that she’s not going to be privileged to the conversation we’re about to have.

“Take a seat,” I say, indicating the chair in front of me.

Sylvie was right. It is a shame this man is taken. He’s incredibly good looking, and his wife is one lucky woman.

“I’m here because I spoke with Ethan Packwood,” he begins as he settles into the chair.

My eyes narrow in his direction.

“Legend?”

“I know who Ethan Packwood is, Detective.”

“Colton,” he urges. “Colton Matthews.”

“Colton,” I say to appease him even though my hackles are up. “What could Mr. Packwood have possibly said to you that would require an in-person visit?”

“He’s concerned for your safety. It seems you have someone focused on harassing you.”

I swallow, annoyed that Ethan went behind my back to involve the police. It’s bad enough that someone has posted lies about what happened the night I was drugged online, having a cop show up only heightens attention on me.

“Are you officially logging this visit?”

He tilts his head in confusion.

“I’m sure Mr. Packwood explained that along with the acts of vandalism, someone has also posted pictures of me on the Farmington Whistleblower page?”

“I understand the concern for your reputation, Ms. Robbins, but your safety is infinitely more important.”

“I filed a police report about being drugged. I met with Detective Gaffey.”

“I’m not making any notes of my visit with you today.”

I nod, grateful. Official notes made on cases by the police always run the risk of becoming public knowledge. The last thing I need is news of the problems I’ve been having fueling the smear campaign already happening online.

“I appreciate that.”

“I just wanted to give you my card.” He reaches into his pocket, pulling a business card out of his wallet. “I’d like to be the first person, or at least the second person you call if you have any more trouble.”

“Second?”

“I assume you’d call Legend first.”

I scoff, taking the card from his hand, noticing the hand-written cell phone number on the back.

“I’m going to call Mr. Packwood. Don’t you worry about that.”

Detective Matthews chuckles at my tone.

“Any form of vandalism should be reported, and I highly urge you to get a security system installed both here and at home.”

“We have security here,” I explain.

“Did you see who damaged your car?”

I shake my head. “We have alarms if we’re broken into, no cameras.”

“I’d suggest an upgrade.”

Ethan seemed annoyed when I told him I didn’t have cameras here or at home. Maybe an upgrade here and installation at the house is a good idea.

“It’s just one more thing to add to my list.”

“Speaking of lists. Can you think of anyone offhand who might want to seek revenge? Maybe a case gone wrong? Someone who gave you the creeps when working a case?”

I place his business card directly beside the one from the flowers before looking up at him.

“I work with families who have suffered abuse and generations of narcissism, Detective Matthews. The list of people who creep me out is a mile long.”

He shifts in his seat, leaning closer before speaking again. “Since I’m not here on official police business, I don’t feel bad about telling you this. Max Vasquez with Cerberus could research a list that long in minutes.”

“You’re suggesting I give any information I have to Cerberus rather than Farmington PD?”

“I’m not here on official business.”

“So you’re connected to the club?” It wouldn’t surprise me that people within the police department had ties to Cerberus MC. Those men have a way of taking care of things, probably in a different more expedient way. That realization makes my attorney vibes tingle, but I push it down.
