‘It is, and I can tell you I’m definitely the winner in this particular deal.’ He kissed her again. ‘The money is going to mean I can spoil you, and I intend to do that so you’d better get used to it. I thought being an artist would fit nicely round having babies. We’ll split our time between the US and Greece. Several times a year we’ll come back here and stay in Camomile Villa so we can see Diandra and Chloe and you can have your fill of Minoan remains.’

‘Wait. You’re moving too quickly for me. You have to understand I’m still getting used to the idea that I’ve gone from owning a bicycle, to having part ownership of a private jet.’

‘And five homes.’

‘I have real-estate whiplash. But at least I know how to clean them!’ But it was something else he’d said that had really caught her attention. ‘A moment ago—did you mention babies?’

‘Have I misunderstood what you want? Am I sounding too traditional? Right now my Greek DNA is winning out,’ he groaned, ‘but what I’m trying to say is you can do anything you like. Make any choices you like, as long as I’m one of them.’

‘You’d want babies?’ She flung her arms round him. ‘You haven’t misunderstood. Having babies is my dream.’

His mouth was on hers. ‘How do you feel about starting right away? I used to consider myself progressive, but all I can think about is how cute you’re going to look when you’re pregnant so I have a feeling I may have regressed to Neanderthal man. Does that bother you?’

‘I’ve already told you I studied homo neanderthalensis,’ Lily said happily. ‘I’m an expert.’

‘You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that.’ Ignoring the heat, the size of the room and the width of the bed, he pulled her into his arms and Lily discovered it was possible to kiss and cry at the same time.

‘We’ve had fun sex, athletic sex and angry sex—what sort of sex is this? Baby sex?’

‘Love sex,’ he said against her mouth. ‘This is love sex. And it’s going to be better than anything that’s gone before.’
