Take A Chance With Me (With Me in Seattle 18)

“Yeah, okay. You’re right. So, I have a new car, a new fridge, and my hot water heater is fixed. I think, as long as I’m not about to jinx it, that things should go back to normal now.”
“That’s three things, so I think you’re safe.”
“Yeah, these things do happen in threes.” I walk to my bedroom and start packing a bag. “I’ll just bring enough stuff for overnight, and then we’ll reassess.”
“You can stay for as long as you need.”
“That’s really nice of you.” I grin when he hugs me from behind as I’ve learned he loves to do. “You’re so selfless.”
“That’s me. They call me Selfless Cameron.”
I snort and pluck my phone off the bed when it starts to ring. “Hello?”
“Hey, are you back?”
“I am, and I have a fancy new car,” I inform Maeve. “What are you doing?”
“We’re hosting family dinner tonight. Keegan’s even closing down the pub early so we can all get together at once.”
“Awesome. What can I bring?”
“Nothing, we have it handled. Oh, bring Cameron.”
“I already planned to.” I look at the man in question, who’s watching me from the doorway where he’s leaning on the doorjamb, looking all kinds of sexy. “What time?”
“Dinner’s at six, but you can come anytime. I think most of the guys are planning to play out in Hunter’s gym. He got some new toys. Oh, and Hunter’s parents are here, too.”
“You have a full house. We’ll head that way in just a few so I can help with everything.”
“Thanks. I want to see your new car, too.”
“I’ll be sure to drive it over so I can show it off. It’s shiny. And it heats my ass.”
“Fancy,” she says and then hangs up.
“How do you feel about family dinner at Maeve’s?” I ask Cam.
“I think it’s the perfect opportunity for you to show off your new wheels.”
“That’s what I said.” I zip my bag closed and turn to him. “Shall we go? I want to go over and help Maeve and Ma with dinner. I know the other girls are there, too, but it’s a lot of work. And, I’ll be honest, I just want to hang out with them.”
“At last, you tell me what you want. I’m ready. Let’s get out of this stinky house.”
I laugh and lead the way to the front, locking the door behind us. Cam stows my bag in my new car.
“Want me to follow you to your place so we can leave your car there and just take this one to Maeve’s?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
Chapter 15
~Cameron~
“And that’s about it.” I push my hand through my hair and glance around at the guys, who have all assembled in Hunter’s gym, where I’ve just filled them all in on the past few days.
Of course, I left out the part about the best sex of my damn life, even though I’m headed toward forty, but Maggie’s older brothers, not to mention her father, don’t want to hear that part.
“You’ve been busy,” Hunter says. “Is your head still whirling?”
“Pretty much,” I confirm.
“That’s a lot of money,” Shawn adds. “And it pisses me right off that it took her two years to find it. That fucker.”
A fresh wave of guilt hits me because I knew about the account all along.
But I couldn’t tell her.
“Well, she has it now,” Kane says. “And wasted no time getting the things she needs, which is a good start.”
“She wouldn’t choose a fridge,” I inform them. “She insisted I do it. Has she always been this indecisive?”
“No,” Kane replies.
“Not until she married The Lemon,” Shawn adds. “After, whenever we asked for her opinion on something, she would say, ‘Whatever is easiest is fine.’”
I narrow my eyes as it all starts to make sense. Why didn’t I think of it before?
“So, she’s not good at asking for help or for things that she really wants. She’ll just go with the status quo, even if that means that she takes something she doesn’t like.”
“What a prick,” Hunter mutters and shakes his head. “So, in other words, he just always got his way, and Maggie put up with it.”
“Yeah, so now she’s used to that,” Keegan says. “She just goes with the flow, and anyone who knew her as a kid knows that’s not her.”
“My Maggie is a fireball,” Tom adds. “She’s always been opinionated and not afraid to voice those opinions. Sometimes, that’s still the case, but not when it comes to herself. She’ll get better as time goes on. It’s glad I am that my girl had you to lean on in all of this,” Tom says as he claps his hand on my shoulder. “Thank you for helping her.”
“She did it all,” I say, meaning every word. “I was just there as moral support. She stood up for herself at that bank and handled Heather perfectly. She loves the new car.”
