Heart thumping, Breck took it in as they approached. Yup, that shadow was most definitely a Camaro-shaped car. They drew to a stop a few feet away. Breck just stood there and stared at the thing.

Kai waited patiently, as if totally understanding.

“Wow,” Breck finally managed. Slowly, he circled it. “Goddamn, that grille.”

Kai folded his arms. “He’s got some teeth.”

Breck coughed back a laugh. “Pretty sure I see fangs.” He resisted the urge to go digging for his cell phone. He wanted a selfie with this Demon Hunter so damn bad.

Kai grinned and moved to the driver’s side. “Get in.”

Don’t need to tell me twice. Breck hustled over to the passenger side. Oh, Jesus. Air left him as he slid inside. Brushed leather and suede. Tinted windows. Sleek console. Red glowing dials. Kai’s ride was primal and posh. Aggressive sex and black silk sheets. Refined and sleek, but also fierce and wild.

And yet, despite all of the eye porn, Breck found himself focusing back on Kai. Evidently, even this car couldn’t compete. Not with the man sitting behind the wheel. Which unsettled Breck, but he forced himself to get over it. No point in tainting this moment with things he couldn’t change.

He drew in Kai’s scent—Crisp. Clean. With a little bit of savory—then drank in the sight of him for the hundredth time. Kai’s hair was down tonight and, damn, Breck loved it. Wanted to rake his fingers through those dark, silky locks. Then fist them super tight against Kai’s scalp and yank Kai’s lips to his mouth. God knew the guy could kiss like a fucking champ.

His gaze dipped to the collar of Kai’s tailored button-up—the glimpse of his smooth, tan skin making Breck’s stomach twist up in knots. Damn. His eyes grew heavy at the sight. Now he wanted to know what Kai looked like without a shirt.

Kai started the engine.

Breck blinked and looked away, the heady spell broken as the motor growled to life.

“Buckle up.” Kai smiled.

A minute later, they were rumbling down the street. When they got to the interstate, though, Kai opened it up. Breck beamed. Holy shit. What a rush. He could feel the engine’s roar vibrating him down to his bones. Their exit came up way too soon. Kai downshifted things back to a throaty purr.

Good God, Breck loved that sultry sound. Like a big ole sated panther nuzzling his mind, body, and soul.

“So…” Kai smiled as he stopped at a light. “Now that we’ve got that business behind us, what’ve you been up to?”

Breck forced his brain to focus. “Um… Just basketball shit. Oh, and cramming for finals.” He made a face. “That time of year.”

“Ah. That’s right.” Kai nodded. “How’d you do?”

“Good.” Breck hoped. It’d been hard to concentrate. His dad had landed him an agent, and all the preliminary events he’d signed Breck up for had really bogged him down.

“Not surprised. You’re a smart kid.”

Breck stiffened, then eyed him. “An insult disguised as a compliment?”

“I didn’t insult you.”

“I’m not a fucking kid.”

Kai eyed him. “You’re young... And still behave so.”

Breck frowned and looked away. Kai was referring to their last encounter. Which shouldn’t surprise him. He’d flat-out assaulted the guy. If the roles were reversed, he’d definitely be holding a grudge. Not Kai, though, to his surprise. Instead, he’d offered Breck a ride.

His gut clenched at the memory of that night. He’d behaved so horrendously—and in more ways than one. Right after nailing Kai with a lowly cheap shot, he’d proceeded to make a move on the man.

Who did shit like that?

He did.

He stifled a groan.

Kai had called him immature, and he’d been right. Breck had been acting like a child, all throwing a tantrum, then tried to take what he didn’t deserve. No wonder Kai referred to him as a kid. The guy was just calling it like he saw it. Their age gap only making it more obvious. Just one more thing Breck couldn’t change.

“You’ll have to tell me how to get to your house.”

Breck tensed. They were back on their side of town, but did he really want Kai to drop him off where other people might see? His car alone would draw attention fast, and Breck did not want attention where Kai was concerned. He shuddered at the thought of Jegs and Charlie spotting the guy. They’d ride his ass relentlessly.

“I think I’ll just walk from your place.”

Kai eyed him. “You sure?”

Breck nodded. “It’s not far. Just a couple minutes down the road.”

“Alright.” Kai took a few more turns, then pulled into the parking lot behind his building. Easing to a stop, he let his engine idle in front of what Breck presumed was his personal garage.

Breck regarded it, then eyed the door to its left, softly illuminated under the light of two sleek black fixtures. “The way to your place?”
