Their Sin City Showgirl (The American Soldier Collection 7) - Page 20

“Because she’s obsessed with winning Conway and your attention,” Brook stated.

“She’s a pain in the ass, and we need to get her out of here before she sees J.J.,” Calder said.

“I’m on it. Be careful about insulting her again, or she’ll complain to Conway, and start harassing him again too. It’s my fault anyway. I was in a bad state that night. Between the Jack Daniels and the flashbacks, I was on the way to destruction.”

“Yeah, that little lady was on her way to landing an orgy none of us were interested in.”

* * * *

J.J. could hear what Brook and Calder were saying as she stood by the door. Calder walked out and gave her a look. “Stay here, and don’t move. Don’t go by any windows or anything.”

He was so damn forceful, and she gave him a dirty look. Of course Calder pointed at her, daring her to challenge him. Instead she turned away and saw the surveillance room. There were about eight different small flat screens, a whole lot of special equipment, and Brook. He was staring at one screen and moving a flat mouse pad around on his desk as the picture enlarged.

J.J. saw the blonde, and instantly she had an odd feeling in her gut. Then she saw Calder walking outside, and Lincoln making his way over from the barn. Both men looked annoyed, but Calder appeared pissed off. “Fuck, Calder, just let Lincoln get rid of

her,” Brook whispered.

“Who’s the blonde? Old girlfriend of Calder’s?” J.J. asked as she walked further into the room. Brook never let his eyes off the screen. She hadn’t snuck up on him. The man knew she was there the whole time.

“No. She’s just interested and we’re not.”

J.J. wondered what Brook meant by “we’re” and whether the blonde was after all four of them.

“Who is she?” J.J. asked.

“A local girl, set on landing a few men of her own.” Brook turned toward J.J. as Calder spoke to the woman and Lincoln kept his arms crossed in front of his chest.

J.J. walked closer and stared at Calder and Lincoln. They were really annoyed at this woman, and she seemed oblivious as she headed toward the house.

“What do you mean, land a few men?” she asked as she stood by the desk and looked at the other cameras.

“A ménage.”

J.J. took her eyes off the screen and stared at Brook. He was facing her, still sitting in the chair, and looking awfully serious. For some odd reason, her pussy seemed to react to the word ménage.

She swallowed hard.

“Are you serious? She wants Calder and Lincoln?” she asked, her voice actually cracking as she turned to look at the screen and saw the blonde heading toward the house and the back kitchen door. Both Calder and Lincoln were on her heels trying to stop her. The blonde wrapped herself around Calder and started kissing his neck and climbing his body.

“And me and Conway, too. It’s a common type of relationship around these parts. It takes a special connection though, for it to work out,” Brook whispered.

For some strange reason, J.J. felt her nipples harden and her reply catch in her throat.

She had heard about such relationships before, and had seen some crazy shit in Vegas. But the way Brook spoke of this type of relationship, he seemed interested.

“So she wants the four of you?” J.J. asked, and when she turned toward him, he was staring at her neck.

He reached for her chin. “Is this why you were wearing the turtlenecks? You were hiding these from us?”

She stared up into his eyes. Brook seemed completely upset. His expression was so unnerving.

“You don’t need to be afraid of us. You can ask me anything that you want to.”

A series of crazy thoughts went through her mind. She could ask him lots of things and learn all about him, Conway, Calder, and Lincoln. But then what would happen when danger found her? She would feel guilty for getting them killed, for getting close to them, or even simply becoming their friend. She couldn’t do that. She couldn’t risk having friends, opening up her heart to emotions that would only weaken her and expose her to pain. After Anthony died, a part of her died, too. But Lincoln’s words came back to her. He wanted her to show them a sign that she could let them in, and trust them. Could she? Were they men she could trust her life with? The thought freaked her out. How could she show them? What if she was wrong? Dead wrong?

“I don’t have any questions, Brook. It’s better this way.”

He squinted his eyes at her.
