“Didn’t I tell you to stay put in the surveillance room? Did I not say to stay away from windows?” he asked, and she stepped back. He was intimidating to say the least, but just because she was standing here in the middle of their living room, half-naked, didn’t make her some weak female. J.J. placed her hands on her hips and lifted her chin toward Calder.

“I would have, but you apparently didn’t have it in you to toss that woman out of your own place. It was annoying to listen to her whine and carry on. Now at least she’ll think twice about bothering you again.” J.J. turned around and grabbed her pants from the floor. As she stepped into them, the four men watched.

“You think I couldn’t toss her out on her ass? I wanted to, but I don’t manhandle women. She’s young and impressionable. We’re older and to her seem adventurous.”

“Adventurous, huh? Yeah, Brook told me about Pauline’s endeavors with the four of you. Pretty interesting the way y’all do relationships out here in the middle of nowhere.” She zipped up her pants and then buttoned the button, putting on a little bit of a Southern accent just to be a wiseass.

“You shouldn’t have exposed yourself to her. Now she’ll go blabbing around town about you,” Conway added to the conversation.

“Listen, it sounded like you needed a woman to get rid of another woman. It’s a done deal. You can go back into town and tell all that your latest orgy girl left town. Then you can deal with that Pauline on your own.”

“Personally, I think J.J. did us a huge favor. Now Pauline will leave us alone, and no one in town listens to her talk anyway. How many times have you been warned, Conway, that Pauline was after us?” Brook asked, as he stepped forward.

“I agree with Brook. I think J.J. just helped us out. Besides, it’s a win-win situation,” Lincoln added.

“How is that so?” Calder asked, still sounding pissed off.

“Well, we got Pauline off our case. That’s amazing, and we got to see a side of J.J. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing some more of,” Lincoln stated as he eyed J.J.’s body over.

J.J. chuckled.

“Let’s get supper ready. I think that’s enough excitement for the evening,” Brook stated and then he and Lincoln headed toward the kitchen, but not before winking at J.J. She had to smile.

She was looking for the shirt she’d worn over the tank top when she heard Conway clear his throat. Turning toward him, there he stood beside Calder, and neither man was smiling like Brook and Lincoln just were.

Calder was holding her shirt.

“I didn’t need you to get into my business,” Calder stated firmly.

She raised one eyebrow at him, as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“I thought otherwise.”

He stepped closer.

“I don’t know where you come from, or what type of job you’ve had or even the kind of person you are, but in this house, we’re in charge. We’re here to protect you.”

“Okay already, I got it. Now can I have my shirt, please?” She reached her hand out, and he stared at her.

“We got rules around here.”

“Okay, Calder, I’ll take care of this,” Conway said as Calder handed her the shirt and then looked her over before he walked from the room. Now Conway stood there and he was in uniform, leaning his hand on the holster on his hip, and looking too sexy. She had to give herself a mental shake. They were every woman’s type.

Conway stared at her, and then stepped closer. He pointed his finger down at her, and she had no place to look but at his face, and the intensity of his eyes, as he towered over her.

“Next time you even remotely disobey an order or place yourself in danger, I’m personally going to throw you over my knee and spank that ass of yours.”

J.J. felt her jaw drop, and then saw Conway swallow hard.

“I’d like to see you try that, Chief!”

They stared at one another, and instantly something changed between them. J.J. understood what it was, but suddenly thoughts of the danger that she was in and what could possibly come to these four men hit her hard. She turned away.

“We’ll talk more later.”

“No need to. I’m sorry if I stepped out of line involving myself in your personal sex life. It won’t happen again.” She started to head out of the room.

“It won’t happen again, and not everyone in this house had sex with Pauline.”
