Hollow Hearts (The Harkwright Trilogy) - Page 76

My eyes lock onto his mossy greens as his face comes into the light, and my brain clearly isn’t functioning at full capacity right now, because this shouldn’t be happening. I should be questioning this. Come on Luna, wake up and smell the fucking coffee.

“Liam.”

“No My Star, Liam never existed,” he holds his arms out wide, as he slowly does a full three hundred and sixty turn. “You’ve been playing with the Prince all along.”

My mind may as well explode, I’ve seen the signs for so long. All those pieces that refused to fit together in my mind or maybe it was more the fact I didn’t want them to fit. I didn’t want to admit that I was falling for the Devil.

His nose brushes against mine and I keep perfectly still, not wanting to react and show him how he’s affecting me.

“Did you really hurt Carly?” Don’t ask him that, it’s not as though he’s going to admit it if he did.

“I think I’ll leave it to you to work that one out for yourself Star, do you think I’m capable of doing that to someone?”

How am I supposed to know? He’s infuriating, but there’s one other thing I need to know. It may not be as important as who hurt Carly, but it still means a lot to me and I need an answer.

“Was it nothing but a game to you?” I ask, my voice catching as I think about all the things he made me feel, and everything I ever said to him. He played me so fucking well. If he truly was the Devil, then I would be his golden fiddle.

“No, not entirely. But if it was a game, let me just say that it is far from over. Believe me My Star, I’m just getting started. You’re the prize, and I cannot wait to collect. My Star, my Harkwright girl and a legacy befitting a prince.”

There’s that word again, legacy.
