So why was I still so bothered by what happened between her and Malachi, I tried to kid myself that it was because he broke the rules, but that
had never been an issue in the past.
Once upon a time, we had been great friends, sparring together and keeping our minds active. He could never best me, but it never stopped him from giving it his all. I could try to pretend I had no idea why our relationship had turned so hostile, but I refused to be in denial regarding that.
I knew that he had never forgiven me for killing his Father in the most brutal of fashions, just like I could never forget that it had been his Father that had stolen the light from my life, the day he murdered Liliana before my very eyes.
I knew that I shouldn’t hold Malachi accountable for his father’s actions, but I still believed that he told his father where to find us. Which if that was the case than he would be as much to blame as his father was.
I keep telling myself that as I climb off of my bike and stroll over to his front door. He lives in a dilapidated looking two storey house; he clearly doesn’t spend a lot of his time here and I know he only really keeps it for appearances.
I don’t bother to knock as every particle that creates me begins to shift and pull away, until I am nothing more than dust in the wind. What I am doing is known as shifting, it’s where I come completely undone from my physical form and while I am in this condition, I am able to travel to any location I have been too before.
I shifted onto the other side of Malachi’s door and heard movement coming from the kitchen, I strolled through the door with purpose and connected my fist with his stunned face.
He landed hard as his back connected with the floor, but I don’t give him a chance to catch his breath, as I placed my booted foot on his throat and applied pressure.
I knew depriving him of oxygen wouldn’t actually kill him, but it would hurt like a bitch and also make him weaker. Not that he would ever stand a chance if we were to ever fight again, he knew I wouldn’t hold my punches and probably wouldn’t stop until his life was in my hands and fading fast.
“What the hell?” He choked out, as he struggled to pull air into his lungs.
I crouched down beside him, careful to keep my foot in place as I wrapped my fingers around his throat. I finally removed my boot and lifted him up by the very throat, that I had clenched within my grasp.
“I know you used your ability against Luna that night in Venom Malachi, I wonder what the owner would say if I was to inform them of your total disregard to their rules.”
He knew better than to treat my words as an empty threat, but he was also too proud to cower and show me any fear.
“I had to know what she was, I didn’t realise that she had no awareness to our world. What the hell were you thinking bringing such a creature to that place.” He practically spat his words at me, as his own anger started to build.
“What kind of creature would that be?” I asked, trying to find out if he had discovered exactly who she was.
“An innocent, yeah she may play tough, but she’s still just an innocent. Are you even aware of the dangers that you could have unleashed upon her if she had come across the wrong being that night. Maybe you were aware and you just didn’t care, but she deserves to know the truth especially with what she is going through.”
“What the hell are you going on about?” I screamed the question into his face, as the control I had on myself began to waiver and I knew I was growing close to actually ending his life.
“She’s changing, whatever she is, the power that is contained within her is starting to look for a release. If that happens without her awareness as to why it could destroy her, you have no idea of what she possesses. If that isn’t bad enough, she’s also going through a lot with what happened when she was fourteen.”
I stared at him dumbfounded, what the hell was he talking about, I knew her mum died when she was that age, but I had a feeling he was referring to something else.
“I take it you are not talking about her mother’s death,” I said trying, but failing to hide the fact I am completely clueless at that moment. It’s at that moment he seems to forget about his precarious position and a huge shit eating grin spreads across his face.
“So that was the event she was talking about, she wouldn’t say what started it all and I have been wondering ever since. So, no I was not referring to that moment and if she hasn’t chosen to share with you her big secret, then I sure as hell won’t.”
His total disregard and lack of respect was my undoing, as I pulled a jagged edged knife from the inside pocket of my jacket and pulled it down across his cheek, starting from the corner of his eye and ending at the corner of his mouth. He tried to move away from the blade, but my hand around his throat kept him in place. He refused to scream out, but he couldn’t hold back the inevitable flinch that occurred, especially as I then began to push the tip of the blade into his other cheek and smiling with pure delight as the jagged edge catches on his skin as it pushed through.
He couldn’t hold back his scream any longer and I finally pulled the blade free and released my hold on him.
He fell back down to the floor as he sat there, holding his hands against the wounds I had caused.
“Stay the hell away from her Malachi, class this as a warning, next time I will take your life.” I followed it through with a kick to his abdomen before I shifted back to my bike and rode away.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Unya
I couldn’t understand why Marcus would bring me here, and then I let my eyes take in our surroundings.
There were floor to ceiling bookcases filled with numerous amounts of books, some were definitely handwritten, which was clear to see just from the binding. There were also candles that stood upon some sort of alter and a clear floor space, where Marcus was now sitting, cross-legged as he watched me size up his room.
