You have stolen something from me, now I will do the same to you…

“Woah!” Dan peers over my shoulder and reads the scorn filled words. “What is that about?”

“I don’t know.” I huff loudly. “It was just on the floor of the office this morning.”

“That’s pretty fucked up. Are you going to go to the cops about it?”

“Is there any point?” I half shrug. “I don’t know who the hell it’s from. Plus, I’m a lawyer who works in the divorce sector. I guess I am going to get hate from time to time.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Some people aren’t ready for their marriages to be over, even if they are on the verge.”

His words make me think about Jeremy and a shiver races down my spine. But it won’t be him, I’m very sure that he didn’t see a thing. He’s the sort of man who would have followed me to my home if so.

Still, just to be on the safe side, I fire off a quick text to Nova.

Zane: Hey, Nova, everything okay?

It’s only when I hit send I realize how a crazy-stalker-like this might sound. I’m really supposed to be giving her space to figure out what she feels. But I do need to know that she’s safe.

Nova: All good, are you okay?

I breathe out a relieved sigh. Thank goodness she’s not hurt, I don’t know what I’d do.

Zane: All good. See you soon! Let me know if you need anything at all.

Nova: Looking forward to it.

Ooh, that’s a good sign. She’s looking forward to seeing me again. That makes my heart flutter. I want to smile loud, but I know Dan will pick up on it and he’ll never stop questioning me. I can’t hack th

at.

“So, aside from disgruntled exes, what’s going on with you? Megan was pissed the other night…”

“Oh, sorry about that. She wasn’t the one for me, mate.”

“You didn’t give her a chance!” He gives me a frustrated stare. “You rushed off to work.”

“I know, but I already knew that it wasn’t going to happen. I found her boring.”

“So, what? She’s hot, who cares what she talks about?”

I cock an eyebrow at Dan. “I guess my biological clock is ticking. I want to meet someone nice.”

“You don’t want to waste time with one woman forever. You have your whole life for that.”

I roll my eyes and snort. “No, Dan, you really don’t. One day you’ll lose your looks.”

“Nah, I’m going to be a silver fox. Don’t you worry about me.”

I laugh and agree with him. There’s no point in fighting with this man when he’s so confident in himself. He will probably live this life forever, sleeping around without any commitment, but that isn’t me. Maybe when I was younger I wanted to sow my wild oats, but now I’m just not that man anymore.

“So, I shouldn’t set up another double date with Megan?”

“Don’t set one up at all! You just sucked face all night, it was very embarrassing.”

“It wasn’t all night long. I can’t believe you would even say that.”
