Brian motioned past the closed double doors. That’s where Ray was. Club music filtered through the cracks. The party was still going on, everyone upstairs completely oblivious to the fact that the music had stopped below them and people were being quickly ushered out to safety.
Ford double-checked his weapon. He stood next to his partner while Dana added more pepper pellets. Ford had given Dana the new weapon a few months ago, before it even hit the market. He’d never seen his partner look as pleased as when Ford introduced a new weapon to him. No one knew how much he enjoyed watching the man’s face as he learned how to use his new toy.
Duke gave a few hand signals. Brian and Ford were to remove any hostiles, Dana backing them up while Duke and Quick went for Ray. They came through the doors like a well-trained black ops team, most of the people in the room not even realizing there was a problem until Quick and Duke were almost to Ray’s VIP table in the back corner and Brian had killed the loud music. Women began to scream and run towards the exit as realization set in that they were not five new dancers lurking around to entertain them.
Ford had just caught a guard in the jaw with a devastating right hook and another in the mid-section when he saw Dana leap up onto one of the tables and start firing off pellets like a scene out of a Bruce Willis Die Hard movie. And what was so dynamic and sexy about it, was his marksman never missed. The man heading towards Ford with an angry snarl on his face never got close enough to him as he was hit in the throat with a pellet traveling at the speed of a major league fastball. Damn, that had to sting.
Dana
Dana’s job wasn’t an easy one. All four members of his team were in the room and it was his responsibility to keep them safe and prevent any sneak attacks while they executed the bond order. He caught sight of Brian pushing through the crowd, making his way towards the back. He was good, didn’t require any assistance from him. Quick and Duke’s loud voices boomed over the screams. “Bounty Hunters! We have a warrant! Everyone out! Everyone out, now!” They called out over and over. His bosses were on top of shit, as always.
With Ford still in his peripheral, Dana caught sight of Ray. Quick rushed him and had him pinned on the ground with his knee in his back so quickly that if Dana had turned for a second he would’ve missed it. Quick expertly secured a set of wires around their bounty’s wrists while Duke had his gun pointed at Ray’s flunkies, warning them to stay back. Dana could hear the police sirens in the distance. It never failed that the cops were called. No matter how much identification they flashed, even with a warrant, no one ever believed bounty hunters could legally come in and arrest someone.
There were a few people clapping when they made their way downstairs with a handcuffed Ray Grossman. It looked like Ray’s presence and scare tactics were never welcomed there. Dana caught the eye of the bartender who had run away from them earlier, her eyes blown in disbelief when Dana gave her a sluggish salute. He looked away, keeping his weapon ready just in case Ray had any other devoted guards willing to try to break him free.
When they got outside, Duke secured Ray inside their transport truck while Quick spoke with the local authorities, letting them review the warrant. Dana and Ford stood there with Brian, waiting for the okay to wrap it up for the night.
With the little Grossman brother down, it would only be a matter of time before big John Grossman got emotional over his brother’s capture and made a mistake. Then Duke would get his ass, too. Who knew Ray’s weakness was his girl, who he couldn’t stay away from? Instead of laying low, he was at a club full of people, regardless that he was a wanted man. Ray’s girl was arrested for harboring a fugitive, her banshee screams for her lawyer piercing the cool night air.
“One down, one to go,” Dana sighed.
Quick came back and told them to meet up in the office tomorrow so they could strategize. Big Grossman was going to pop up any minute. As he and the King brothers got ready to leave, Sascha called out to them, hurrying through the crowd. He ran right into Brian’s arms, looking up at him with sad, green eyes. He was a cute little thing, Dana would give him that. Full of bravery and spunk, just how Brian liked them. The man hadn’t even hesitated to help them when everyone else had cowered away.
