Here Comes Trouble (Nothing Special 3) - Page 52

“I thought you’d yanked my dick off, you jumped so hard,” Green said through his laughing fit.

“Fuck you.” Ruxs laughed. “You jumped too.”

“Hell yeah, I did. I thought he was sitting in the damn truck it was so loud.” They kept laughing at basically being caught all the way back to the precinct. It was like getting caught behind the bleachers in high school. Green sped into the parking lot, doing a terrible job of parking and hurried out of the truck.

They walked up to the door, walking in just as those two irritating vice detectives were walking down the hall.

“Hey guys. Just saw God and Day in the captain’s office again. They sure don’t look happy. Where’s your smug grin now Green?”

“Right here, fuck-face.” Green sneered, cupping his dick and balls.

One of the detectives turned and got up in Green’s face. Ruxs grabbed him by his collar and pulled him back hard enough for him to hit the wall. “Back off,” he barked.

“Keep your goddamn hands off me, Ruxsberg.” The detective stood at his full six-foot height but still had to look up to Ruxs.

Ruxs moved forward, bumping the man with his ample chest. “Or else what?”

“This what you guys have time for?” God barked in his country drawl while making his way down the hall towards them.

Ruxs and Green turned from those assholes, both of their angry glares meeting their lieutenants’. God looked back and forth between them before his own angry gaze settled on the vice detectives. “Let’s go, we got work to do,” God said turning to walk over to their office.

“Hey, God. You need to keep a damn leash on your guard dogs,” one of them yelled at God’s back. “I should file a complaint.”

God turned and the vice detective paled visibly. He walked back over to them, not stopping until they were looking up at him. God’s voice a menacing snarl. “I’m only going to say this once. Stay away from my men, stay away from my department. You wanna file a complaint. Fine. I’ll put it in the pile with the others. I’ll get to it when I don’t have shit else to do. So make sure you hold your breath.” God turned and left them feeling like nothing. He snatched the camera out of Green’s hand and began to flip through the pictures as he walked.

Ruxs and Green followed close behind God, moving through the bullpen. God’s head was buried in the camera, not really looking where he was going. Officers hurried out of their way. Not out of fear. It was because they were so damn big. So it was either move or get run the hell over.

He burst through the door and they noticed that everyone was there already, probably waiting on them. “Sorry we’re late, guys.”

“Mm-hmm,” Day said, looking carefully at them.

Ruxs tried not to meet his all-knowing eyes. It looked like Green was doing the same. Shit. Day could read people as easily as he could read a book. And he was never wrong… or rarely wrong. Everyone gathered into their meeting area, which consisted of several chairs, a couple couches, and a long dry erase board. God stood at the front, Syn sitting off to his side with his head buried in a file. The IT guys were sitting at the table in front of their laptops, ready to report when God asked them. Day walked by him and Green, still watching them.

“So what took you guys so long?” Day said easily, a slight smirk playing on his lips.

All eyes turned to them. Green slid down in his chair, leaving Ruxs to face the interrogation. There wasn’t a good answer.

“Syn said you guys called him an hour and a half ago. It only takes thirty minutes to get here.” Day propped his hip up on the corner of the table next to God.

Ruxs dropped lower in his own chair. “We stopped to get a sandwich is all,” Ruxs said quickly. He wanted the attention off of them. “So let’s move on with the plan, we got some good pictures. Um, IT can you get those up on the screen, please.”

God stood with his arms folded. Day was still watching them. No one had moved and Ruxs blew a frustrated sigh. Goddamn Day.

“It took that long to get a sandwich?” Day looked around in mock confusion. “Ruxs, I’ve seen you both inhale a foot-long in less than two minutes.”

“What’s your point Day?” Ruxs snapped.

“He’s saying next time you two want to get each other off, do it on your own time,” Syn said around his own grin.

Green dropped his head into his hands. Ruxs knew he was a nice shade of red as everyone gasped and gaped at them. Vicki was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes.
