Embracing His Syn (Nothing Special 2) - Page 119

“Syn. Syn,” Furi whispered. But he didn’t see him.

“Syn don’t!” He heard Day yell. “Stay back. Don’t touch him! Stand down! All of you lower your fuckin’ weapons!”

Who is Day talking to? Furi tried to get to his feet but he couldn’t. Uniformed cops had their weapons drawn and pointed. Furi figured they must’ve been aiming their guns at Brenden and Patrick. Furi was still on the floor on the other side of room and couldn’t see what was happening. Was his ex resisting? Did he have a weapon out? Furi’s head was still foggy and his vision hazy. Syn was there somewhere because everyone was shouting his name. Furi managed to get to his knees, his arms trembling trying to hold his weight up.

“Syn! Don’t throw your life away over this trash,” Day yelled again.

“Officers, I said stand down goddamnit!” God’s throaty roar sent a scary chill through Furi’s body.

“Tell your Sergeant to drop his weapon,” another uniformed officer called back. “He has his gun drawn on an unarmed man.”

Furi was still crawling. He saw Brenden’s motionless form still lying on the floor, his hands cuffed behind his back, blood oozing from his ear.

Where is Syn? Furi needed to see him. He’d know everything was all right when he saw him.

What he didn’t expect to see when he crawled to the other side of the room were countless guns drawn and aimed at the man he loved while he crouched over his ex with a gun pointed at the center of his forehead.

“Drop your weapon, Sergeant Sydney!” the officer yelled again.

Someone had turned the music off and all that could be heard was the commotion of so many men in a small space and angrily barked official orders.

“If you shoot my Sergeant there’ll be hell to pay.” God’s deep growl broke over the yelling.

Furi was making his way to Syn. He was all Furi could focus on. He didn’t care if it put him in the line of fire all that mattered was Syn. He wouldn’t let Syn go down like this. They were supposed to live a long and happy life together in love, while Patrick had to watch from the sidelines. Syn in jail for the next twenty years for murder was not a part of the plan.

“Do it!” Furi heard Patrick taunt Syn. “You better do it, or else I’ll come back for him and next time I’ll make sure I finish the job. How does it feel to know that I fucked him in your own bed? And he screamed my name, Sergeant ... not yours.”

Syn’s body shook with the power of his wrath. He was going to kill Patrick.

“That’s a fuckin’ lie,” Furi rasped out, trying to break through Syn’s rage. He could see the sweat dripping down Syn’s face as he stared down the line of his gun. Both hands were grasped so tightly around the deadly weapon that the veins in Syn's forearms bulged. His rapidly beating pulse was clearly visible just beneath his flushed skin. Syn’s finger rested heavily on the trigger. One sudden move and Patrick’s brains would be all over the floor.

“Keep talking, Furious,” Day told him quickly.

“Syn please listen to me. He did not have me. I would never let that bastard have me. I belong to you. Syn please put the gun down. Don’t let him take you away from me. It’s exactly what he’s trying to do. I swear to you. He. Did. Not. Have. Me,” Furi stressed. “Let him go to jail, not you. I need you here with me.” Furi was right next to Syn, looking up into his gleaming eyes, but he didn’t touch him. He knew not to touch him. “Don’t kill him Syn. Jail is a far worst fate for him. Let him be confined to a six by eight cell. Let him be someone’s bitch. Let him have to wash another man’s dirty drawers for the next twenty years.”

Furi saw a small crack in Syn’s anger. He slowly brought his hand up and very gently brushed the back of his hand down Syn’s cheek. “Look at me, Corbin.” Syn was still glaring daggers at Patrick. “Corbin, I love you. Look at me.”

Syn blinked slowly before turning and looking at Furi. His eyes roamed over him as if he just realized Furi was actually there talking to him and not in his mind. He could see Syn’s love reflected back at him and knew he’d gotten through. Furi had managed to get to his knees but fell back down to the floor from the exertion.

“Furi needs you. Help him,” Day told Syn. Syn was on his feet and cradling Furi in his arms. He picked him up and whisked him out of the room and away from Patrick’s curses and threats.

Syn laid Furi’s tired body on the couch and took a breath against the side of his face. “I’m so sorry I was late. I’m so sorry.”
