The Tight End (Red's Tavern 6) - Page 48

Since Monday, we’d been stuck in a loop of being too polite to one another. We’d had another couple of nights studying together, and yesterday, on the couch, I’d put my arm around him as we watched some more episodes of Rome. But he’d fallen asleep on me, like some sort of angel, and I had let him go off to bed.

Even though I’d wanted to drag him into mine.

Every. Fucking. Night.

But I knew I had to hold back. I knew I’d hate myself forever if I broke Logan’s heart. So all week, I’d been bottling it up. Now, with the adrenaline coursing through my blood after tonight’s win, I wanted nothing more than to just be with him.

I could let myself enjoy it. Just for tonight. I couldn’t fucking wait to see his adorable ass in my jersey again. Right now, really, I wanted to lift him up and kiss him over and over.

My eyes scanned the crowd for him.

“God, he is even hotter up close,” a deeper voice said.

“Brody! Can I get a picture with you?” the girl said again.

I turned around and finally saw them as they came up close to me. It was a girl and two stocky guys, and all three of them were ogling me like I was a piece of meat, looking at my ass and arms instead of my face.

“Thank you,” I said. “And sure.” I was still shower-fresh from the locker room, just wearing the T-shirt, hoodie and sweats I’d pulled on.

My eyes were still scanning the crowd and the bleachers for Logan. The whole time I’d played, I’d been thinking about him watching me. Every step I took out on the field, I’d inadvertently been picturing Logan’s reaction, hoping he was proud or at least entertained.

The girl in front of me was stunning—long, red hair, green eyes, and a seductive glance. I stood next to her for a selfie as her friends looked on.

“What are the odds I can get your number?” the girl asked in a flirtatious tone.

I smiled softly. “I’m afraid I’ve got to tell you I bat for the other team,” I said. “Or, run for the other team, at least.”

“Oh,” she said, waving a hand through the air. “I know you’re gay. I actually came here with Brian and Danny because they’re obsessed with you. But I had to tell you how fucking hot you are, because they were too shy.”

“I’m actually not that shy,” one of the guys said, licking his lips as he took a step toward me.

“And I definitely would love to take you out. Want to come to a party with us?”

He was pretty good-looking, actually. Normally, I’d have flirted right back, and probably gone out with him—and maybe home with him—tonight.

But when he flirted with me, I felt… nothing. Nada.

In fact, all I really felt was impatient, waiting for them to walk off so that I could finally find Logan.

I puffed out a laugh. “Well, I appreciate it, but I don’t think I’m in the market for anything like that tonight. Thank you guys for coming out, though. It was a tough game to win, but we did it.”

The other guy cleared his throat, coming up a little closer to me and giving me a once-over. “Fine, I’ll be bolder than him,” he said, a glint in his eye. “We drove all the way down from the city to watch you, specifically. We’ve been reading about you for a while now, and… fuck it, I’m just going to say it. Do you want to have a threesome with us? We both want to fucking worship your cock. You won’t regret it, I promise.”

The moment he asked it, I saw Logan in my peripheral vision, coming up on one side of the group. He froze in place, eyes wide, like he’d walked in on something he shouldn’t have.

“Logan,” I said, turning to wrap my arms around him in a big hug. “I’m so glad you came tonight.”

“You were amazing,” Logan said close to my ear.

“Fuck, it’s so good to see you,” I said softly, giving him another good squeeze before letting

go.

Without thinking, I reached out to grab his hand, lacing my fingers in with his.

“Oh my God, you totally have a boyfriend,” the guy who’d been asking for a threesome said, his eyes going wide. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize.”

“Oh, no,” I said, feeling heat creep up to my face. I dropped my hand from his like I’d just touched a burning stove. “Logan’s—he’s not—we aren’t together.”

I was blushing. Fucking blushing and stammering, all because a stranger had mistaken us for a couple.

The other guy lifted an eyebrow, glancing between the two of us. “You sure about that?” he asked, a small smile on his face.

Something fluttered behind my chest. I was panicking a little, to be sure. The last thing on Earth I wanted was for some stupid rumor to get started that I was dating Logan. I knew it would crush him if even one idiot posted personal details about him on social media, and in the past, guys I dated had been scrutinized.
