He obeyed, sullenly, and I decided to actually order him a leash. The boy had to learn to control himself at least a little. With a leash, perhaps his world could shrink when we were at the house. Right now, he was the wide-eyed boy who wanted to see everything all at once.

Once I’d rolled onto the lift’s platform, I patted my lap, and his goofy grin was back.

“I get to go on the lift with Daddy,” he said smugly, eyeing those next to us who had to walk.

I chuckled under my breath. “My little animal. Lucian and I are gonna teach you how to behave.”

He scrunched his nose and traced a finger along the shell of my ear. “I can tone it down. I’m sorry.”

“Not too much.” I touched his cheek. “But we don’t lash out at other members.”

“Even clowns?” He got off my lap as we reached the second floor, and I gestured toward the hallway to the left.

“Even clowns.”

All the way down, we found our first station in a room decorated like a dark piercing studio—but, for the occasion, there were balloons everywhere too, of course. The center of the room was occupied by a dentist’s chair as well as an exam table, and Ivy and her new safety blanket Beau stood behind the equipment that was lit up by a strong lamp in the ceiling.

Why Beau chose to play only with friends at the moment made sense. He was going through a divorce after finding his husband cheating on him with a neighbor. But Ivy was just being a chicken. She had a long song and dance with one of our Tops and another guy, Ev, who only joined us a few times a year because he was stationed in another country. Ivy claimed she wasn’t interested in a relationship, but… I didn’t buy it.

“Welcome to Pins and Needles!” Ivy beamed. “To earn your first clue, your first puzzle piece, you will complete a needle play scene using at least three—oops, hold on.” She flipped through a notebook or something behind the chair. “Noa, your Daddy’s cleared you for advanced playtime, so that’s a minimum of fifteen precision needles and the use of at least one toy.”

This was going to be fun.

I chose the table for Noa, because I knew it could be lowered so I could stay seated in my chair.

“Lie down on your stomach and get comfortable,” I instructed.

He was excited. Did anything actually intimidate him? I doubted it.

Beau stepped forward from the shadows and adjusted the head of the table where Noa could put his face through.

“All right!” I rubbed my hands together, then pushed up the sleeves of my shirt. “What do I start with? Where’re the needles?”

“Here, buddy.” Beau handed me a steel tray with individually wrapped hypodermic needles, plus the safety paraphernalia required. Ivy had been a good girl and supplied me with four syringes filled with water too.

I put on a pair of black surgical gloves first.

I deliberately opened a needle next, which I knew would make Ivy perk up.

“Um, Sir—you need to swab the area first,” she said carefully.

“Oh. All right.” I kept my amusement to myself as Noa tensed up a little. Then I opened two packets of nonalcoholic wipes and began cleaning his back. “Okay, so I just stick the needles into him, yeah?” I leaned closer and brushed a hand over his shoulder blade.

“You—you haven’t done this before?” Beau asked, confused.

I shrugged. “How hard could it be?”

“Ummmm…Daddy—”

“Hush, boy. Let Daddy play. Unless you wanna safeword.” Inching even closer, I opened a 25g needle with a little gray hub at the end, and I pinched a bit of his flesh together before I carefully pierced through it.

He hissed and struggled to relax.

No wonder. I was acting like an idiot, and I couldn’t think of a single person other than Noa I’d do this to, but I knew him. He was a challenge because he wasn’t easily fucked with.

I pinched his flesh some more, getting a better sense of the blood vessels underneath the skin. Some bled more than others.

After four needles were in place, it was time to shake his foundation again. I unwrapped a fifth and pierced his flesh slowly, then grabbed one of the syringes of water.

“Whoops—I need gauze.” I squirted enough water from where the skin was punctured that it trickled down his side. Dammit, I should’ve said tissues or toilet paper. Gauze was…too accurate.

Beau handed me the gauze, and I unwrapped two pads.

“You’re a bit of a bleeder, freckles,” I said.

“Uh-huh,” he replied shakily.

I smiled to myself.

Ivy scowled at me.

Rinse and repeat after eight needles. I emptied an entire syringe and threw in an “Oh shit” for good measure. Soon, he’d find out the truth. In the meantime, I found myself enjoying this more and more. I’d missed the mind games. And I knew with every fiber of my being that the mental sadism I would expose Noa to would be more intoxicating than anything I’d done before.
