No One But You

“Like her?” She laughed as she got a little closer to Quincy, “When I handed you that pill, I actually felt sorry for you.”
Quincy took a step towards her.
“Shut. Your. Mouth.”
Willow’s eyes met mine and then Sam’s followed.
“Can you give us a sec?” I nodded toward the ballroom as I ushered Willow in the same direction.
I had no idea whether or not she knew about this part of Quincy’s story, and if she didn’t she wasn’t going to hear it from Sam.
“Jamie—”
“Please.”
“Quincy?”
She didn’t reply. She didn’t even acknowledge her.
“Please go.”
She looked over at Quincy again and then nodded before she walked away.
“Come on sweetheart, let’s go back, it’s almost midnight.” I pulled her slightly to me hoping that she’d walk away.
“Does he know?” Sam giggled. “Does he know just how messed up you are?”
Twice in one night. For the second time I wanted to hurt someone. I wanted to grind them to a pulp on the hard marbled floor with my feet. I was pretty sure that after this I was going to need to see someone myself, about some anger management.
“Does he know that you let the mother of his child sign a death warrant?”
Quincy’s eyes shot to mine. Her chest caving like she’d just taken a hit.
“Will mothering a dead woman’s child make you feel better? Is that why you didn’t argue or fight her on it?”
And snap.
Before I could stop her, Quincy had Sam pressed against the wall. Her hands pinning her collarbone.
“You pernicious bitch.” She gritted as she shook my hand off her shoulder. “One of these days someone is going to make you swallow every single shitty word that has ever left your mouth.”
Sam cocked an eyebrow at her as a smile grew on her face.
“You’re full of shit. You’re just the same coward now as you were when you left that pill. You don’t have it in you to actually follow through because you’re weak. You have zero backbone, that’s why he fucked me. That’s why he came back to me and kept coming for more. And that’s why you couldn’t get rid of that thing you didn’t want.” She looked down Quincy’s body stopping on her belly. “What do you think of when you look at her? Do you see me and him or do you see your little dead boy?”
“Enough!” I pulled Quincy off her and into my chest. Her arms stretched out in front of her and her hands clenching like she was ready to strangle the breath out of Sam. “You need to leave before I kill you myself.”
She straightened, her hands adjusting the high collar of her black dress before running them over her dark hair. Her eyes wide and elated as she looked Quincy up and down.
“I don’t know what they see in you. You’re pathetic.” She started walking towards the party, the sway of her hips deliberate. She turned back to us after several steps with a sickly sweet smile on her face. “Happy New Year.”
She was something else. Willow was right, she was everything that was wrong with the circles we ran in. She was manipulative and vicious. She was callous and cruel, and there was no way I was going to let her get away with hurting and antagonising the woman in my arms. Someone that was good and everything that was right in this world. I couldn’t stand by anymore and just watch. I knew that she wanted to fight her battles herself, but the reality was that any battle she was involved in was mine too, because she was mine.
“Sam.”
She stopped and spun slowly towards me. Her brows hitched like I’d just interrupted her on a mission. Like looking our way was an inconvenience.
“Doctor and patient confidentiality.”
