Canon (Klein Brothers 2)

Look, I loved my husband more than life, but my revenge resulted in me having three nights of the bed and house to myself because I said no to leaving it. Drew and York loved being at both of their grandparents’ homes, so they jumped at the chance to go and stay with either of them when the opportunity presented itself.
This left me with no toilet seats left up, no clippings around the sink, no dishes on the counter above of the dishwasher instead of in it, and no odd socks left in random places around the house. There was no dirty laundry on the floor instead of inside one of the six hampers in the house. I watched whatever I wanted on the television, spread myself out across the bed, rolled up in the comforter, and slept like a swaddled baby.
It was bliss.
Sure, Canon found out what I’d done when Drew let it slip, but when he stormed into the house, ready to tear into me, all I had to do was hit play on the song he’d insisted we dance to at our wedding, and he got it.
I also used the footage from the cameras in our house to my advantage. Because people had uploaded our wedding dance video to every social media platform possible, I made sure to tag it and give it the best title.
‘Wife finally gets revenge on the husband who pussied out of the dance he insisted they do at their wedding.’
Moments like this always made my heart feel lighter. To some, they might come across as petty, but to me, they signified and proved just how amazing my life was now. I had a husband and two sons that I worshipped the ground they walked on. They were the reasons my heart beat to the rhythm it did every day.
John had been released from prison almost eleven years ago now, and not once had I heard even a peep from him. On the day he’d walked out of the building, Kortni had been waiting for him, her phone recording it all for the live video she was doing.
He’d walked past her, leaving her looking like the fool she was. I didn’t follow what he did now, but I knew that Canon did. The last I’d heard, he was working in a factory in Tulsa, having decided to leave Texas altogether.
I knew my husband wouldn’t ever have told me if he was doing to another woman what he’d done to me, but I also knew from the depths of my soul Canon would have stopped it the second it started.
Given that neither of them were behind bars, I figured John hadn’t gone back to his old ways.
The week after finding out I was going to be a mom x2 …
“I fucking hate doing videos of just me,” I huffed, glaring at the camera that was pointed straight at me. “Couldn’t one of y’all at least sit beside me?”
“No,” Sayla snickered. “This is your segment for the blog.”
Sighing, I leaned forward and hit record. A lot had happened since I’d gotten together with Canon, and I knew there were other people out there who’d likely gone through what I had. Maybe by doing this, they’d find hope and determination?
That thought made me grit my teeth and decide to suck it up.
“Hey, guys. It’s Jacinda Klein here from Delicious Divas. A while back, Evie began a special mini-series called, ‘When You Know You’ve Found Your Forever.’ So far, you’ve heard from Evie, Heidi, and Naomi, and I hope their stories gave you inspiration.”
Picking up my coffee cup, I took a mouthful, hoping it’d stop my mouth from going dry with the nerves I was feeling.
“Anyway, this is my story. It might not be pretty, to begin with, but I’m happier than I could ever dream of being, so bear with me.”
