Pure Temptation (Priceless) - Page 19

“Okay, I’ll hang here with Ollie, or I can have Carter come pick me up.”

“Stay.” I’m not sure if he’s asking or telling me.

“I have my shift tonight,” I remind him.

“I'll drive us over if it gets late,” Ollie offers.

I stare up into Kane’s handsome face. I know he doesn’t want me going in to work tonight, but he’s not going to tell me not to. And I can’t just give up my responsibilities because he’s a part of my life now.

It would be easy for me to get swept up in Kane and forget about everything. It’s hard to describe the way he makes me feel. It’s almost as though I’m having an out-of-body experience. It’s as if I’m watching someone else’s life unfold in front of my eyes, one that I never allowed myself to even imagine would be in the cards for me. I need to make sure I stay grounded.

“That work for you?” he finally says, breaking me from my thoughts. A smile breaks across my face because I know he’s giving in some, even though he doesn’t want to.

“It works for me,” I agree. He leans down and kisses me.

I get lost in him, forgetting that we’re in his office with other people standing around. “I’ve never seen my brother kiss someone before.”

“That’s more than a kiss.” Ben chuckles. I jerk back, realizing our audience is now growing.

“Out of my office,” Kane shouts at them, but no one moves. They keep on staring with smiles on their faces. Except for Mr. Hart. He’s eyeing us with curiosity. He and Kane look so much alike.

“Isn’t it fucking annoying when everyone is in your business?” Jason asks. “I suppose I should start telling you to stay away from Pink. She’s pretty much a little sister to me.”

“Fuck off,” Kane grumbles.

“When did you start cursing so much?” Ollie asks with a smile.

“Can you all go get your vests on or something? We need to be leaving here in five.” This time they actually listen to Kane and head out of his office.

“Is this stuff dangerous?” I ask when it’s only him and me again.

“I’ll be fine.” He kisses me again. “Damn, I don't want to leave. Just want to take you back home.”

“Go do what you need to do, and then come back and have your way with me. I’ll be waiting.”

“Will you stay at my place tonight?” The need I see in his eyes has me agreeing. I nod my head. I’ve been itching to see Kane’s place. Carter texted me earlier about using my car and staying at Drake’s again, so why not? “Good girl,” he says against my mouth.

A whimper leaves me. I don’t know why that turns me on so much. So does the way he’s always taking care of me. Who am I kidding? Everything about Kane turns me on.

“Be careful,” I say before he’s out the door, leaving Ollie and me alone. I’m always going to worry about that man.

“They’ll be fine. My brothers are damn good at what they do,” Ollie tries to reassure me. “So you and my brother?”

I turn my head her way. She’s got a giant smile on her face. “Fine, I’ll spill some if you spill some.”

“Really?” She laughs.

“Why not?” I wouldn’t mind learning more about Kane and his dating history. “I’m curious.”

“All right, you got a deal,” she gives. “I don’t want all the details,” she adds quickly.

“Duh!” I laugh.

“You go first.” She drops down into one of the chairs. I spill, starting from what I think is the top of this cat and mouse game we’ve been playing. “Wow, I can’t believe you’re actually talking about my brother. I never knew he was a caveman.”

“You’ve really never seen him like this before?” I did some soft pushing before to try to get information on Kane. It was hard because I didn’t want her to think I was into him back then, so I didn’t get a ton.

“No, kinda why I agreed to the deal. There’s nothing to tell. He doesn’t date. Not around me at least.”

“So he hides it.” I’m not sure what to think of that.

“Who cares if there were a million or none before you? Clearly he’s picked and wants you. He’s all over you. Never thought my Kane would be the PDA type.”

“He could break my heart.” I can’t help the stupid tears that rush to my eyes.

“Oh, Pink.” Ollie jumps up, rushing over to me. “If you ask me, I think it’s you that could break his heart. I’ve always thought Ben and Kane didn’t date a lot because of my mom. She walked out on us. Like we didn’t matter. I was scared they’d never give love a chance because of that.”

“I’m not going to walk out on Kane.”

“And he’s not the type of man that would walk out on a girl,” she says, trying to make me feel better. Problem is, while that might be true, Kane might also be the type of man that would stay even if he didn’t want to. Because he thought it was the right thing to do.
