"Look at what the cat dragged in,” Vivi says when I walk into the lodge on Saturday night.
"Trust me, no one has been dragged anywhere," I say, looking around at the full lodge. "I went willingly." I wink at her, putting down my black purse on the table. She sits with Alex and Julia, who just smirk at me. Their eyes are asking all the questions, and I know once I sit down, the questions will come. I also know I’m not sure what to answer her, not that I’m not sure about Wilson because, well, I want to keep him to myself. "Where are Mom and Dad?"
I look around and see them with my uncle Max and aunt Allison. "Hey," I say once I get close enough.
"Franny." My mother smiles as I hug her and then go to my father.
"How're you doing?" he asks me as he hugs me, and for the first time in a while, it feels like the old days. "You look good."
"I feel good," I say to him, smiling, and he doesn’t let me go, putting his arm around my shoulder.
"Dallas agrees with you." My uncle Max bends to kiss my cheek. "Why haven’t you been over yet?"
"Leave her alone," my aunt says. "She’s a single woman."
I look down, and I’m about to say something when everything happens in slow motion. Everyone’s phone goes off at the same time. I look over to the table with my sister, who looks up with her mouth open. I turn my head to my father, who looks down at his phone. I turn to look up at the television screen with a ticker at the bottom, which almost makes me fall to my knees.
Wilson is once again caught in another scandal, but this time, it's rated R. Sex tape leaked with none other than his teammate's sister.
Chapter 28
Wilson
"Welcome back," Nico says when I walk into the arena. "Ready for tonight?" It’s my first game back after suspension.
"As ready as I’ll ever be." I smirk at him and walk down the hall toward the locker room.
"Look who’s back," Manning says to me as I walk into the room. "Just in time for my big game."
"You didn’t think I would miss the big one thousand, did you?" I walk to him, holding out my hand, and he comes in to shake it and pulls me to him.
"Glad to see you back," Manning says. I walk over to my spot on the bench, taking off my suit jacket. I can still smell her on me from when she hugged me, the smile coming to me right away just picturing her smiling at me. I can still feel her kiss on my lips, right before she jumped out of my car. We drove to the arena together, but she got out before I parked, and I have to say I hated every fucking thing about it. We will definitely talk about what the next step is, and by that, I mean when she wants to talk to her family about us seeing each other.
My head is down, the chatter from the guys is all around me. They talk about the game and what they are going to be doing afterward. But all I can think about is her, the fact that in such a short period, I’ve fallen for her, and I have no idea if she feels the same.
"Gentlemen," Michael says, walking into the room and going to sit down at his spot. "I don’t know about you guys, but I would love to kick Dylan’s ass tonight." He mentions his cousin who is the best in the league, who plays for Montreal, and is playing us tonight.
I hear commotion in the hallway, and I have just enough time to look up to see Cooper rushing back into the room, followed by his cousin, Dylan. I hear Dylan yelling for him to calm down, but the rage on his face has me turning to face him just before he grabs me by my shirt and pushes me against the wall behind me. Michael springs into action, trying to get Cooper off me. Manning jumps in on the other side, and all I can hear is the way my heart is beating in my chest.
Everyone in the room springs into action, and it’s a clusterfuck. The media is there filming, and I can hear the sound of clicking around me, so I know pictures are definitely being taken. Nico is trying to get through to us as I look into Cooper’s eyes. "My sister," he hisses, and my heart sinks. My heart speeds up so fast I’m surprised it’s not coming out of my chest. Knowing he knows, the only thing that goes through my head is getting to Franny to give her the heads-up. To warn her that he knows, fuck, fuck, fuck. "You fucking piece of shit."
