“Hmmm. The way you feel pressed up against me. Your lips all swollen from mine, your cheeks flushed, and the way your eyes are looking at me. You’re a siren, Avery.” He growled. “A fucking siren.” He buried his face in my neck, his tongue swirling over my skin, trailing a hot, wet path up to my ear and tugging on the lobe. “I know we were only supposed to kiss, but I want you. God, I want you so much.”

I groaned, arching toward him. I could feel how much he wanted me. I wanted him. I had never experienced desire like this until now. Until this man.

His mouth covered mine, and I was lost.

Lost to him and his kisses.

His warmth.

Him.

Something buzzed, startling us both.

Daniel pulled away with a curse, gently standing me on my feet. He slid his glasses back on, reached into his pocket, and grabbed his phone, answering gruffly with a “hello.” He listened intently, his thumb grazing over my lips as our eyes locked. He groaned in frustration, tilting back his head.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can.” He slipped the phone back into his pocket.

“You have to go.” Sadness filled my chest, and I was unable to look him in the eye.

“One of my patients isn’t doing well.”

“You’re a doctor?”

Long fingers slipped under my chin, forcing me to look at him. Even blurry, I could see the frown on his face.

“I’m a veterinarian. I had to perform emergency surgery on a dog brought in this morning and she isn’t doing well. I have to go.” He paused and sighed. “But I don’t want to. I want to stay here with you.”

“Really?”

His arms wrapped around me, hugging me close. “You silly girl. Yes. I want to stay with you. I want to take you out and talk to you. Get to know you.” His arms tightened. “Kiss you some more if you’d let me. No cameras this time.”

“I’d like that, Dr. Spencer.”

“You’d like to see me again? Or kiss me?” He teased, his lips nuzzling my head.

“Both.”

“Can I see you tonight? Take you out?”

“On a date?”

“Yes, a date.” He cupped my cheek. “But I need something to tide me over. Tell me three things.”

I frowned in confusion. “Three things?”

“About yourself.”

“Um, blue is my favorite color.”

He grinned, ghosting his finger under my eye. “Green is mine.”

His inference why made me smile.

“Beth is my best friend.”

He nodded. “One more.”

“I’m an accountant.”
