“Lacey.” That was as far as I got before her lush lips and hot mouth took me in and sent me to heaven. Her mouth was as talented as she’d accused mine of being, and watching her only heightened my desire and took me closer to the edge. She took me deep and swallowed around me. My eyes closed and my jaw clenched as I fought for control. But Lacey did it again and all thoughts of control fled.
My hips bucked twice and she didn’t flinch as she took me deeper with a low moan.
“God, woman.” I pulled away and used the length of my body to take us both to the ground, settling on top of her and sliding deep in one long, slow move. “You undo me, Lacey.”
She smiled up at me and wrapped her legs around my waist, urging me deeper. I gave her exactly what she wanted, what we both wanted more than we wanted our next breath. She moaned and gasped, cried my name when I hit that spot she loved.
“Levi, oh god Levi.” Her head shot back, eyes fluttered closed and her back arched.
Gorgeous. I leaned forward unable to wait another minute to taste her again, tugging a nipple between my teeth as I took her a hundred miles past the summit and together, we fell.
I don’t know how long we floated like that, bodies shaking and trembling with pleasure, gazes locked on one another like magnets. Eventually, maybe an eternity later, we landed back on that rug in her living room, smiling like fools and gasping for air. “What was that?”
Her question shocked a laugh out of me. “If you have to ask, maybe we need to do again to refresh your recollection.”
It was her turn to laugh. “Sure. As. Soon. As. I. Can. Breathe. Again.”
I kissed her again, long and slow, enjoying the tight pulsing clench of her body around mine, the aftershocks that shook her. “Have you caught your breath yet?”
She laughed and I rolled to my side, bringing her with me so I could look into her blue eyes, her smiling face. “I don’t know Levi, you kind of take my breath away.”
Exactly the words I wanted to hear from this woman. “Good to know.” I pressed another kiss to her lips and pulled back, my head propped on my hand as I watched her closely, accepted the fact that I was falling hard for this woman without knowing how she truly felt. “I have an idea.”
“Naked dinner?”
I laughed. “I’ll leave that decision up to the hostess. About Venezuela.”
Lacey’s body went stiff, but her expression never changed. “I’m listening.”
“Maybe this can be your first big international story for your new venture. It’s guaranteed to be a great story with national headlines that will put you on the map.”
The smile she sent me, like I was some kind of hero, made me uncomfortable. I wasn’t a hero. A real hero wouldn’t have even thought, for one moment, about breaking his promise and leaving his family behind, for another story. Her smile widened and Lacey sat up close, her forehead right against mine. “You really think I could do it?”
I nodded. “Absolutely. You’re tough, strong, determined and stubborn as hell. Crucial tools for any crisis journalist.” She leaned in and kissed me, and I wondered if I screwed up. Did she think I was trying to get her out of town for a while?
Her eyelashes fluttered when she pulled back, plump lips slowly forming into a smile. “I’ll think about it.”
“Good.”
“But for now,” she pushed at my chest until I was flat on my back. “Now, I’ve caught my breath Levi.”
And I spent the next hour stealing it all back. Twice.
Chapter 17
Lacey
“I’m telling you Pippa, nothing can ruin this day. Nothing at all.” It was late on Saturday as I drove back from day one of Stevie’s cheerleading competition, muscles still deliciously sore from the most fantastic Friday in the history of Friday nights.
My sister-in-law laughed, and I could just picture her in the backyard with a glass of sweet tea, feet propped up with her free hand rubbing her swollen belly. “You know saying that is like tempting fate. In the restaurant business we never say, ‘it’s a quiet night’ or ‘it’s dead in here’ because statements like that inevitably lead to a packed house.”
“It’s a good thing I’m not superstitious,” I reminded her with a smile as I made my way to the CCDJ offices to prep tomorrow’s edition.
“How did Stevie’s squad do today?”
“Second place overall, so they’re busy tonight practicing stunts and over obsessing about tomorrow.” Stevie had been so excited to see me in the stands cheering her on that it was well worth the lack of sleep to make the two and a half hour drive to watch my baby girl perform. “Tomorrow will determine if they go to nationals.”
