His body shuddered, begging him to move.

David rolled his hips, encouraging, and Jonathan snapped to meet the wriggle, to tame it. David moaned, a surprised quality to it.

“Good, boyfriend?”

A laugh hijacked by a groan. “Yes.”

David dragged his hands down Jonathan’s back to his hips, to the curve of his buttocks. He squeezed and Jonathan lost all thought. Everything boiled down to flashes of David’s flushed face and the exquisite sensation of his balls slapping against his boyfriend, his partner, his future.

David gasped, limbs loosening with each roll inside him. Harder, he begged. Faster.

Jonathan obeyed, pleasure rising, threatening to undo him. He wanted too badly to give in. Wanted more to live in this moment forever.

David clenched around him and whimpered. Fingers dragged through Jonathan’s hair. Lips skated over his cheek. The bed shifted with their movements, a rhythmic thump of the headboard against the wall.

David threw his head back, the tendons in his neck a glorious sight—

Orgasm shot between them, in thick long waves that clung to his chest.

Jonathan thrust into that pulsing glove, strangled moans at his ear. And at Jonathan’s ragged name pearling down his throat, he stiffened, and spent, spent, spent deep inside his David.

Chapter Twenty-One

The Big David Dinner, JohannStrauss, and some lulling

One afternoon a month later, while Savvy was still at school, David moved in and wasted no time: he dragged Jonathan straight to their bed. In stolen visits over that month, fervent explorations of each other, David had grown increasingly confident. And far more wriggly.

The first time he whispered new things he wanted to try into Jonathan’s ear, uttered his most sensual desires, Jonathan had come on the spot.

Now he had Jonathan pinned to the bed and was bouncing up and down on him in a way that made Jonathan feel most pleasurably owned.

After, David dragged him to the kitchen and devoured two pasteis de nata from the waiting plate, then met Jonathan at the unusually stocked fridge. Fingers on the edge of a picture of him and Jonathan dancing, Ben looking on, David smiled. “For the sake of our family,” he said, “one of us should learn how to cook those vegetables.”

“. . .”

Laughter. “How about I take point there? The last time you tried . . .”

“You ate nutrients.”

“Stick to baking.”

“Cheeky.”

David’s eyes flashed; Jonathan stepped close, lowering his head—

“Hey, I’m home,” Savvy’s voice rang out as they stepped into the living area.

David paused, their lips half an inch apart.

Jonathan cupped his face and kissed him. They were family, this was them. There’d be no tiptoeing around their feelings.

David smiled into it.

Savvy dropped their bag onto the table. “I’m actually really good with the PDA. It means you won’t mind me kissing my boyfriend in front of you.”

Jonathan whipped his head up. “Boyfriend?”

“Um, so . . . I might have gotten back together with Nate?”

David tackled Jonathan, thwarting his launch out of the cottage to find this Nate and give him a piece of his mind. Arms padlocked him still.

Jonathan grimaced. “He broke your heart.”

Savvy raised a brow and Jonathan didn’t miss the sinking glance to where Jonathan’s hands rested over David’s, to a watch and a leather wristband nestled close.

He slammed his eyes shut and filtered through his feelings. He remembered the beach in Greece, the hurt he’d held in his arms. You can’t stop love, he’d said. He’d meant it.

He fell back into the cocooning warmth of David. “Invite him to dinner tonight.”

Savvy straightened. “The Big David Dinner?”

Laughter. In his ear, “Is that what you’ve been calling it?”

At combined giggles, Jonathan rolled his eyes. “Six o’clock.”

Savvy perked up, “Can we sit next to Giant George? Nate’s a huge fan.”

In fact, Savvy and Nate did sit next to George and Mira, while one Sapphire cushioned up to Jacquie, and the other experienced the brisk intensity that was Nash and his walking stick.

Dinner was surprisingly good. But of course, David wasn’t that inexperienced in the kitchen—he’d cooked with Nash and the others. Taken turns.

“You okay?” David asked in his ear.

Jonathan turned in his seat to face him—

A young ginger cat jumped between their chairs.

Fingers pinched his skin as David unlocked the leather band from Jonathan’s wrist. A dimple flashed at him, and David dangled the band to Bastet, teasing her mercilessly.

Jonathan grabbed a bottle of champagne and topped everyone up, then took Bastet to the kitchen for some treats of her own. When he returned, the leather band locked quickly around him again.

Jonathan absorbed the light weight, and plucked up his glass. His gaze went to David’s, like it had done all evening. David smiled and draped himself over a lazy elbow on the table. “Ohhh, Jonathan’s giving the toast. This will be fun. What will you say?” He picked up his drink with the lift of an eyebrow.

All Jonathan saw was David.

“To love.”

Savvy was a series of yawns as they zombied their way to bed and Jonathan and David cleaned up. More precisely, Jonathan cleaned up, while David challenged his control with sneaky kisses and even sneakier squeezes.
