Carol laughed…a flirty laugh.
“Well, don’t let me hold up your evening with Bradly here,” I said, flashing her a dead-ass fake smile.
“The offer is still on the table if you’d both like to join us,” Carol said as she continued to stare at Luke. It was clear Bradly was not happy. Jackass didn’t like it when the roles were reversed.
Luke wrapped his arm around my waist. “Thank you, but we’ll pass.”
Bradly tugged Carol away, mumbling, “Nice meeting you both.”
Carol waved goodbye and went to say something as Bradly picked up his pace and pulled her away.
“Friends of yours?” Luke asked, pulling my chair out for me.
I laughed. “No. I knew Carol our last two years of law school or so. I do feel sorry for her, though.”
“Is that because old Bradly wouldn’t stop staring at your breasts? Which, by the way, look fucking amazing in that dress.”
Grinning, I replied, “Thank you. And yes, the dickhead didn’t even try to hide it.”
The waitress came up to the table and asked Luke for his drink order. To my surprise, he ordered water.
“Not drinking this evening?” I asked.
He shook his head. “No, I have a little surprise for you after dinner.”
I raised a brow. “A surprise where you can’t have a drink?”
All he did was nod. He gave a quick glance around the restaurant before he looked at the menu.
“I did ask for a more private table, but this was all they had,” I said.
“It’s fine,” he responded, his voice sounding a bit distracted.
“Was the flight okay?”
“Yep.”
I sat back in my seat and stared at the menu he was holding up in front of his face. He was clearly trying to keep people from seeing him. I reached for my wine and took a drink.
He moved the menu down and looked at me. “Do you already know what you want?”
Nodding, I said, “Yes, I’ve been staring at the menu for twenty minutes.”
My words made him put the menu down. “I’m sorry. I had Hank stop by my place so I could pick something up. I honestly thought I’d make it here on time.”
I waved it off. “No, I’m sorry. You’re acting strange.”
“I don’t mean to.” He reached across the table and took my hand. “It’s been a long week, and I really wanted to see you.” He looked around once more, and I could tell he was uncomfortable.
“I have an idea, if you’re up for it,” I said. “There’s this new pizza stand that I’ve been dying to try. We could take an Uber there if Hank dropped you off.”
“I drove here myself.”
“What?” I asked, surprised. “You drove here? By yourself?”
Luke laughed. “I do have a driver’s license.”
It was my turn to laugh.
“I thought you wanted to try the New York strip,” he said.
Squeezing his hand, I leaned across the table. “All I really want is to be with you, not have everyone staring at us, trying to place who in the hell you are because they feel like they’ve seen you somewhere before.”
A brilliant smile appeared on his face, and it warmed my heart. “Are you sure?”
With a wink, I replied, “As long as you give me one hell of an orgasm later, I’m sure.”
He laughed, then pulled his wallet out and tossed some money on the table.
I grabbed my coat and we quickly walked out of the restaurant. It was a beautiful evening for April and a bit on the warm side, so I didn’t have to put on the light coat I’d brought with me.
I waited for Luke to ask the valet to bring his car up and noticed a sports bike parked out front. With a low whistle, I said, “Wow, look at that motorcycle.” The bike was black with a bit of lime green. Lord, it was nice.
“It’s a Kawasaki KLR650,” Luke said. “Do you like motorcycles?”
I smiled and shrugged. “I’ve never been on one, but I think they’re kind of hot.”
He raised a brow. “Is that right? And would you have a problem riding one in that nice dress of yours?”
I glanced down at my outfit and then back up at him. “If that was your bike, I’d hike this bitch up to my boobs so I could climb on the back of it.”
Luke laughed.
One of the valets walked up to Luke, and he handed him some money. “Thanks for looking out for her.”
“Her?” I asked as Luke took my hand and led me to the bike. When he stopped and handed me a helmet, I gaped at him.
He smiled. “Tell me you’re not going back on your word, Bree. I was looking forward to it.”
“Wait,” I said, shaking my head. “This is your bike? Your bike?”
He nodded, then slipped on the other helmet.
“And you want me to climb onto it in this dress?!”
Luke took the helmet back off. “You said you would not even a minute ago. Put your jacket on too.”
