“You can’t, you’re supposed to be a lawyer!” She snapped splaying her arms out to her sides in annoyance.
“I’m not an idiot. I told them I’d learnt it all at a stag party, duh,” he retorted.
“Oh, right. Well that’s okay then,” she replied with a defiant nod, folding her arms across her chest. “And Fabio?”
“He came to go through the final dance rehearsal, your dad wanted me to prove I could make cocktails and I guess, they liked them so much, they got pissed,” he shrugged and laughed at his handy work.
“Myla, Rhett, come on, stop being party poopers,” hollered Victoria.
“I thought you said my father wanted a divorce, it looks like he’s trying to hump her to death in there,” she growled as she paced around the floor in front of him.
“Do you know, it’s been fifteen years since they were intimate? In your father’s, drunken state, he’s been asking me for advice and tips, you know in the bedroom—”
“Okay. That’s too much information for my delicate mind to handle right now, and I could really do without that vision in my head,” she replied with a shudder. She made retching noises and pushed her palm in front of his face to cease his talking.
Kai laughed. “I told you, I’d have her eating out of the palm of my hand before we left.”
She shook her head at him, her face breaking out into a grin. “You sure have a way with women.”
He stood ticking his head from side to side and rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet. “You’re the only one I want my way with, Myla,” he replied huskily with a dirty, sinful look spread over his chiseled features. Oh, and how I can’t wait for that Myla Fox. “Dance with me, Juliet?”
“Seriously? You want to dance with me? I thought I had the grace of an elephant?” she challenged.
Taking her hand, he kissed the back of it “Yes, well that was the other day. Today, I’m looking at you through different eyes.” The touch of his hand burned into her skin. She swallowed hard, her breathing picked up pace and goosebumps broke out along her spine as he led her through the kitchen and out to the patio.
Swinging her around into his chest, she wrapped her arms around the back of his neck, her senses were flooded of his scent and she inhaled deeply, resting her cheek on his chest. His arms slipped around her waist instinctively, making her feel dizzy from his touch. Together as one they moved slowly to the music, every move he made was attached to her and he could feel the rampant beating of her heart. Neither one of them spoke as they swayed from side to side. He found himself not wanting to let her go as he clung on to her like she was a life raft that would inevitably save him from drowning. Finally, he broke the silence. “Tonight, I want to take you on a date,” he said lowly, kissing the top of her head.
“On one condition,” she replied playfully thrusting her groin brazenly into his.
“Uhm,” was all he could say, his mind became pure mush at the intimate gesture.
“We find a hotel room after, so when you finally make love to me, I can scream the fucking place down.”
/> “Shit, Juliet,” he mumbled. Excitement soared through him at the thought of it and he almost came on the spot. He bit down on his lip to prevent himself almost saying something stupid as tranquility settled over his face and he tightened his hold on her.
He almost told her he was falling for her. Almost.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
Standing in front of Grace’s full-length mirror, Myla clutched her hands together nervously and sighed. “I can’t wear this, it’s far too short, one wrong move and everything will be on display.”
“It’s stunning on you, M. I don’t know why you’re getting yourself so worked up over this, surely you guys have had date nights in the past?” Grace asked throwing herself backwards on her bed with her hands clamped to her forehead in sheer exasperation.
Nope. This is why I’m so freaking nervous. “Well yes, but we don’t always get to spend a great deal of time together, you know with us both working long hours. This will be the first one in a long time,” she lied. She ran her hands over her backside, still unsure about the dress.
“Look, if you’re going to stress out so much, help yourself to something of mine.”
“Yes, because your clothes will fit me,” she scoffed abruptly.
“I guarantee you, Rhett will shoot his load as soon as he sees you. You look divine, now step away from the mirror,” Grace ordered, waving a finger in the air like a scolding teacher.
With another nervous look over her shoulder towards the mirror, she let out a deep sigh as the door was knocked on. Well, no time to change now. Grace jumped from the bed and clasped her hands together with glee and excitedly opened the door. “Romeo, your Juliet awaits,” Grace announced enthusiastically when Kai stepped into the room. Myla snorted and pursed her lips. If only she knew the meaning behind that statement.
“Holy crap,” Kai muttered as he stood rigid inside the doorway. His clean-shaven face had flushed and his eyes were nearly popping from his skull as he slowly raked his eyes up her body. “You …look …. Uhm …nice,” he finally stuttered.
Nice? Is that all he can manage, nice? With a small nod and a roll of the eyes at Grace, she grabbed her purse from the side unit and headed towards the door. Stepping aside, he watched Myla gracefully waltz passed him, without so much as a glance in his direction. “Myla,” he hissed grabbing her arm with his hand. “When I said, you looked nice what I really meant was you look so, …so.”
“What’s the matter with you tonight? You seem tongue tied,” she asked with a smirk. She watched him squirm, as he ran his hand across the back of his neck and sighed through puffed cheeks.
