The Woodland Packs - Page 64

There was nothing but comfortable silence in the truck for a while, then Dexter cleared his throat.

“Um, we were wondering if you’d prefer to live closer to town, Claire? We’ve got money, and skills that are hireable. We could get a plot of land, and build a huge house for you.”

I glanced across at him.

They loved their pack, and their home. “Why would you do that?”

I looked back at Jay and Taylor, who were glancing at each other nervously.

“Because, we love you.” Jay said, quietly, as though scared to voice such a thing.

Warmth filtered through my chest and made stupid tears spring to my eyes.

“But why would you leave the pack? It’s your home.”

Taylor sat forward on his seat. “Because you’re our future. Our family. We’ll do anything to make you happy. Go wherever you want to go. Well, anything but live in that tiny apartment of yours. That’s where we draw the line,” he said with a gorgeous grin.

On

ce again, I didn’t know what to say.

“I love that you want to make life easy for us, and I love that you’re willing to compromise, but so am I. I can drop some shifts at the hospital, and only stay in the apartment when necessary.”

I saw Taylor’s grumpy expression and smiled at him. “Or we can buy a house on the outskirts of town and all be there most the time. I really don’t care. An hour’s drive is really nothing.”

My proclamation was met with grins and Dexter’s hand sliding across my thigh in a possessive move.

“There’s been no sign of the bear shifters since the hospital. In fact, when Grayson’s pack went to investigate their known dens, they seem to have moved on.”

“That’s great.”

I was relieved to know that the men who seemed to want me killed were gone for now.

Some people… seriously. They just didn’t want anyone else to be happy.

“How are you feeling today?”

A shiver raced straight through my tummy at Dexter’s question.

“Why? You wanting to show me the new bed?”

Dexter shot me a grin. “Yep.”

I turned back around to face the road and settled into my seat.

“Sounds like a plan.”

We were home before I knew it, and the sun sparkled bright, happy light all over our house.

Talk about a homecoming.

The guys all jumped out, and Taylor opened my door and scooped me up like I weighed nothing at all, although he was very cautious of my injured arm.

I didn’t bother complaining, I just clung to his neck and hoped he didn’t drop me.

He went straight inside and up the stairs, into what used to be Dexter’s room.

All furniture had been removed except for one massive bed filling half the room, wall to wall.
