Devil in a Suit - Page 41

“My approach worked well for a while,” Tyler replied, sounding a bit defensive.

“But it’s not working anymore. Try to switch things up. See how it works out.”

I believed that going a little easier on people could benefit him and his employees. I had heard him yell at employees from down the hallway. It didn’t seem like a motivating approach. If people were too nervous to function around him, they wouldn’t get any work done or feel motivated to try their best.

Tyler nodded after a moment. “I’ll see,” he said.

That was good enough for me. At least he would try. I wanted him to succeed. He deserved the success, but he had to take some risks and make some changes to keep himself on top. That was how businesses thrived in the long run and kept their competitors at bay. I didn’t want Brandon Krouse sneaking up on him.

“Hey, you motivate me. I want to leave a big mark on people like you do,” I told him, hoping my business idea flourished like his did.

College was when I finally started growing up but growing up was terrifying. I had to learn how to do so many things on my own, and I was scared of messing up. I didn’t want to ruin my life when it just started. It wasn’t until my junior year when I realized how many resources were out there that could’ve helped me. When I was about to drop out because of a tough professor, I could’ve gone to counseling services or even tutoring services. There was a career center that helped with resumes and interviews, and there was even a food pantry if money was tight, and food was low. So many people, including me, didn’t know about those things.

My own experience dealing with adulthood inspired me to come up with my business idea. Hannah and Nick helped me develop it, adding things from their own unique experiences. It would be a great victory to be able to help people out and show them where they could get help.

“Well, if you ever want some more experience or to try something new, there could be a place for you at my company after you graduate,” Tyler replied.

My eyes widened as I stared at him. Did he just offer me a job after graduation? It was the thing that seniors wanted to hear the most, but I couldn’t take up his offer, even if it was incredibly kind of him.

“Thank you for offering, but I can’t accept since we’re… involved,” I explained to him with a sheepish look. “And I really want to try to make my own idea work with my friends.”

Tyler nodded his understanding. “I can respect that,” he told me as he slipped his arm around my shoulders. His finger hooked itself under my chin, drawing my eyes to his. “It would be impossible to keep my hands off you if you worked for me.”

“I’m working for you now,” I laughed softly as I felt his hand trail along my thigh. My eyes flickered down to his lips and then back up to his eyes.

“And where are my hands?” Tyler grinned before closing the distance between us to kiss me. The hand under my chin moved to cup my cheek as his lips moved and pressed against mine. We found our own rhythm, indulging in each other with each warm touch.

I pushed my hand into his hair, feeling warmth bloom throughout my entire body. He could turn me on with a mere touch. The only issue was that I had to finish my part of the business plan tonight. I promised Hannah and Nick that I would have it done so that we could merge all of our sections and go over all of our work together.

With a sheepish look, I rested my forehead against his, gently stroking his hair. The last thing that I wanted to do was to stop kissing him. However, I couldn’t break a promise to my friends. We had been working too hard on this project and idea in general for me to hold us back.

“What’s wrong?” Tyler asked me.

I hoped that he didn’t only come here because he wanted to sleep with me. I loved sleeping with him. He really knew his way around my body, but I hoped that he liked me outside of that. I didn’t just see him as a fuck buddy. I wanted there to be more to us than just that.

“I have to work on my business plan. I told my friends that I would finish it tonight,” I told him, expecting him to get up and leave.

Tyler settled back into the couch, getting comfortable. “Want me to help?” he asked me.

I gave him a surprised look, not expecting that response from him. It touched me that he even offered to stay. “Do you want to? You don’t have to,” I said, not wanting him to think that he was obligated to help me out. However, I certainly wouldn’t mind his help.
