“Here’s the thing you’re forgettin’, Tess... If it ain’t a prospect, it ain’t one of The Synners and I know for fuckin’ sure it ain’t my dad… Christ.” He made a gagging sound. “With Woody now livin’ in the apartment above Pete’s… And unless you’re doin’ a threesome with Deke and Reese or Sig and Red… Then that leaves only two brothers.” He groaned and drew a hand through his hair. “No, it don’t. It leaves one ‘cause I know you ain’t doin’ Dozer. That fucker can’t even find his dick unless you push him in the gut to pop it out, just like the eyes do when Dyna squeezes her Bug Out Bob toy.”

Normally, she’d laugh at that, but right now she wasn’t finding any humor in it. Especially since Cage was about to come to the only conclusion possible.

“For fuck’s sake,” he muttered, shaking his head. “That stupid motherfucker. He’s got access to more sweet butts to keep his ass busy and his dick wetter than ever before.”

She needed to do damage control. “It was a mistake. It won’t happen again.” She stopped herself from adding an “I swear,” to the end of that because, in reality, she couldn’t swear that was true. Even though she should. She should stay clear of Easy from now on.

Easy was right. They needed to end things. It would be best for the both of them.

“You sayin’ it was just once? Just tonight? Or have you been sneakin’ out of this house without me knowin’? Not only puttin’ yourself at risk but all of us by leavin’ the fuckin’ back door unlocked while you’re out chasin’ easy dick. Or should I say Easy’s dick. Christ, Tess. The goddamn Shirleys jacked-up Jem once and stole my goddamn daughter—“

“The Shirleys are gone.”

“Now they are!” he roared, exploding from his seat and beginning to pace. “Woman, how fuckin’ long has this been goin’ on? How long have you been sneakin’ out?”

“It… I… It wasn’t…” Shit. “Not long.”

“Not long in human or dog years?”

Cage could be funny when he wanted to be. Unfortunately, tonight it wasn’t his sense of humor coming out, it was his anger. “It was… Just a few times.”

Holy hell, she was a grown woman, she shouldn’t have to answer to him. But she knew better than to say that out loud, frustrated or not. It would only fuel the flames.

She needed to stay as calm as possible. To smooth things over.

He stopped his pacing right in front of her chair and turned to face her, dragging his hand through his hair again. “Tess…”

She surged to her feet. “Please don’t tell Trip. Or Stella.”

His answering silence was worrying.

“Cage…”

“You askin’ me to keep a fuckin’ secret that could get one of my brothers fucked up?”

“Don’t be a snitch, Cage.”

“Fuckin’ took you in, Tess, and you pull this shit. Wantin’ me to keep a fuckin’ secret. From our fuckin’ president!” Cage’s volume once again rose to the point she was afraid he’d wake up Jemma or Dyna. “You ain’t a sweet butt, Tess. Your brother’s gonna lose his shit if he finds out. Just don’t need him losin’ his shit on me. Had that happen once, don’t need it to happen again.”

“He won’t. If he finds out, I’ll take full responsibility. It’s my fault.”

Cage’s low, dry laugh filled her ears. “You gotta be fuckin’ kiddin’ me.”

“I’m not. I’ll take the punishment. I’m the one that told…” She couldn’t say his name out loud. Even though Cage already figured it out, by saying Easy’s name, she would only confirm his guess. Saying it out loud might send it out to the universe and the universe might hurl it back to Earth like a damn meteor wreaking death and destruction in its path. “I’m the one who insisted we keep it between us. But it’s done now. It’s over. It was just a quick thing. It’s over, Cage.”

This time she almost added an “I promise,” but again stopped herself in time. Even so, it was over. It had to be.

“I don’t believe you. And funny how you can ride his dick but can’t say his damn name. That tells me a lot more about you than him.”

Damn. These guys were deceivingly smart.

“Cage, if you tell my brother… Easy won’t be the only one affected. I love Dyna… I don’t want… I don’t want things to change.” One of Trip’s stipulations when he took her in was she not create trouble for the club.

Her older brother liked to keep a tight hold on the Fury. Did he rule it with an iron fist? He did. But, according to others who remembered, nothing like how Buck ruled. Trip’s father had been cruel and abusive. A destructive monster with a temper to match.

A man who fucked up their mother’s head and made her almost as destructive as he was.
