To steal her and keep her.

It didn’t take much for him to get her wet. For him to make her breasts ache. For him to make her breathless.

As crazy as it was, he was the first man who actually “did it” for her. They clicked sexually. Never once had she left his room unsatisfied.

Back when it started, she only planned on using him for her own needs. She didn’t think he would mind since she’d seen him have sex with so many women over the last couple of years. Not only the sweet butts but the occasional hang-arounds and even some randoms.

The man was far from shy and could probably talk any straight woman out of her panties with his looks and easy-going personality. But he had mad skills, too.

In the beginning, that was why she kept coming back.

She thought he’d be a selfish lover so she expected she could be the same with him. But she’d been wrong.

So damn wrong.

At first she’d been thankful she was wrong. Now she wished she hadn’t been. Because it never would’ve continued for this long, it never would have progressed like it had.

They wouldn’t be where they were at that very moment, in that hammock, kissing, rubbing against each other, losing their breath, losing their minds, if he’d sucked in bed. If he’d only worried about getting himself off and left her hanging.

If he had been a one-pump chump.

“So fuckin’ hard for you,” he whispered against her lips, thrusting against her. “That’s all ‘cause of you. You do that to me, Tess.”

“I’m not the only one.”

Chapter Twelve

Fuck.

She shouldn’t have said that. She shouldn’t have sabotaged the moment.

But of course she did.

Of course she did.

She couldn’t let herself be happy. She had to ruin it before someone else did. She expected disappointment or heartache, or even worse, to be waiting for her around every damn corner. To trip her up like little freaking gremlins. “Oh look, Tessa’s happy! Let’s ruin it for her. Who does she think she is trying to be happy?” Cue the evil laughter.

But it wasn’t only the miserable little creatures in her head, it was her mother’s voice who haunted her, too.

“Wipe that smile off your face, girl!”

“Be quiet! You’re giving me a headache!”

“You actually thought that joke was funny?”

“Go outside and don’t come back before dark.”

“No wonder your father doesn’t want to be around, you kids are too damn loud.”

Too loud.

Too demanding.

Too… everything. It didn’t matter what it was, if it had anything to do with her crotch fruit, it was too much for Tammy. She was not shy about sharing that fact with them, either.

The woman shouldn’t have had one child, forget three. She only had them for a specific reason and that reason wasn’t what it should’ve been. The novel idea of actually wanting children.

They shouldn’t be a tool used for manipulation.

“Babe, you’ve been the—“ He lifted his head and turned it to listen to something out in the dark. “Fuck. Someone’s comin’,” Easy said under his breath. “We’ll finish this later.”

They both scrambled out of the hammock. While doing so, Tessa’s foot got caught and she almost face-planted onto the concrete. Easy caught her just in time and steadied her on her feet.

As soon as he released her arm, he adjusted his hard-on so it wasn’t so obvious, snagged her forgotten beer, and moved to the other side of the closest picnic table, settling his ass on the top. He pulled out another hand-rolled and quickly lit it, taking a few puffs on it to get it burning evenly.

This time the cigarette wasn’t tobacco.

Seconds later when Saylor materialized from the dark, Easy appeared as though he’d been sitting there all night enjoying a joint and a beer like it was an everyday thing.

Saylor’s gaze sliced from Tessa to Easy and back. Her eyes narrowed and she plugged her hands on her hips. “What are you two doing out here?” Her tone a bit accusatory.

Shit. While she and Saylor were close, even best friends, Tessa hadn’t told her what was going on between her and Easy. She really didn’t want anyone to know. It was safer that way.

She knew Saylor wouldn’t talk but still…

The whole point of having a “secret lover” was keeping it secret.

“I was heading home when I saw Easy sitting out here by himself. I’ve been keeping him company for a few minutes.”

When Saylor stepped up to him and held out her hand, Easy automatically passed her the joint.

“What are you doin’ out here?” Easy asked Rev’s sister as she took two long hits on the joint before passing it back.

“Looking for Tess. Cage said she was in The Barn.” She turned to Tessa. “Didn’t you get my text?”

She shook her head. “I haven’t checked my phone.”

Saylor’s eyes narrowed. “When don’t you check your phone?”
