“Fine. Maybe it went to his spam. Eat your lunch there.”
“An apology would be nice.”
“When I don’t have to reprimand you every day I’ll be nice.”
He starts to walk away to his office like he didn’t just ruin my lunch. “Jerk,” I mutter under my breath. He whips his head around. “I’m a jerk, but I’m not deaf Miss Novak. Be careful, you’re on thin ice.
Chapter Six
Jack
The second I’m in my office, I loosen my tie and take a deep breath. I wanted to smash Elliot’s head into the table for fucking sitting so close to her. Since I met Petra, I can’t fight the growing jealousy living in my veins. Pacing for a minute or two, I finally calm down enough to sit down and fix the lie I set up to retrieve her.
I message Petra and tell her that he found the documents and that I rescheduled the meeting for tomorrow at one. It’s all bullshit because the second she walked out of the room, I called Redding and informed him that I needed to cancel the meeting.
The image of her meeting any of the other men in the building flooded my brain. There are several handsome bastards roaming the building who would gladly ask her out without a hint of hesitation. They’re not her boss, so they don’t have a fucking conflict blocking their path to happiness with her. I’ll fucking step in the way every time, but now it probably looks like I was into my last assistant too. Petra’s the only one I want and I want her to stay away from Elliot who clearly is after her.
The prick has a problem if he thinks I’m going to let him get near her again. I’m about to fire his ass, but I need a legitimate reason for it. It’s not like he’s done anything wrong as far as the rules go but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to beat the shit out of him for trying to scoop Petra from under my nose.
A call comes in from human resources. “Hello, Ms. Hoffman. What can I do for you?”
“I need to make sure everything is well.”
“What is the matter?”
“Nothing, I just saw you huffing into the lunchroom and by the time I was done speaking with an employee you were gone and they said you were upset with your new assistant. Does she need to be replaced?”
“No, it was a computer glitch on my client’s end. Everything is fine. Miss Novak did her job and it was a miscommunication about the schedule.”
“Okay. I just want to make sure we don’t have a repeat of what happened a few months back, so if you want to fire her let me handle it.”
“It won’t be necessary.” Suddenly, I hear her delicate knock on the door and my cock stiffens. It doesn’t matter that she’s not in front of me yet. Just the thought of seeing her sends my arousal into overdrive. I end the call with HR because my moments alone with Petra need to be just that—only us two.
“Come in.”
“I wondered if you wanted me to start the filing now.” Fuck me. Was her outfit that tight this whole time? It’s no wonder why they’re all eager to be by her. She’s a goddess, but I’m going to covet her for myself.
“Yes, you could get started.” I look at my watch and realize that she’s only been at lunch for twenty minutes. “No, actually you haven’t taken your full lunch, Miss Novak.”
“I don’t really need to. It’s not like I have anyone to talk to out there at my desk. Besides, looking for another job on the company computer is frowned upon.”
“I’ll have to agree with you on that. Come over here and get started.” She nervously smiles at me when I give her one of my own. Fuck, I’m lost. How am I going to make a move when I don’t know where to begin?
“So how many more do you have?”
“That stack over there and we should be caught up.”
“Okay. She sashays over to the pile in the corner, passing by my desk in her form-fitting skirt. Biting back a groan, I want to push it up to her waist and run my hands and mouth all over her pussy and ass. I’m acting like a sick fucker and I need to calm my ass down before I get out of control especially after everything that happened yesterday.
I try to focus on my work for the next hour as she files away all the documents. Our time is up when the phone rings. “Mr. Shaw’s office. One moment please.” She puts it on hold and looks up at me. “Marilyn is calling for you.”
“I’ll take this.”
“Okay. I’ll be at my desk.” She leaves the room and I feel like I’ve missed something.
