EPILOGUE
New Beginnings
The city buriedDrake in an unmarked grave on the prison grounds. He had no family on file, at least none that could be tracked down. We all knew the names of the relatives he claimed weren’t real, but who were we to say so?
I recounted everything that happened to my men and explained how something like Drake Sullivan had come to be. At first, it was hard for them to swallow, but as the story progressed, it became a horror story come to life. No one ever thought a hybrid could exist, and we all prayed he was the only one. That kind of madness had to have come from the diseased mind of something that shouldn’t have ever existed to begin with.
We left New Orleans, settling in the busy area of Chesapeake, Virginia. It was a new start for us as a family. Here, we got to know each other as if we forgot the past we lived through. We let go of preconceived notions and fears and truly fell in love with the idea of our bond.
I let go of my fears of true love, and I loved completely, giving every piece of myself to those who saved me. It was the happiest time of my life.
Then, just when I thought I'd found my happily ever after, there was a knock on the door of our home.
Two hooded figures stood on my rural porch requesting to speak to us all together.
“Dahlia Brooks?” the leader asked before stepping inside uninvited. “My name is Merrick Delmar. I am a first lieutenant for the Council. Do you mind sitting down with us and explaining what transpired in New Orleans?”
