Her eyes turn pleading. “Please, don’t make a scene. I need this job.”

As angry as I am, I can’t ignore the desperation in her voice. She told me that night at the bar that she was celebrating getting a new job, one she was very excited and grateful for. No matter how pissed I was to wake up alone, I wouldn’t want to take that from her.
